THE ROLE

The successful candidate will play a key role in the development of music at Wellington College in Tianjin, working in close collaboration with the music team and under the guidance of the Director of Music.

The music teacher has responsibility for:

▪ the planning and teaching of the subject to pupils in Years 3-8;

▪ ensuring that an inspiring learning environment is provided for the teaching of music;

▪ coaching choirs, ensembles and individuals in music;

▪ the Junior School Christmas concert and summer gala;

▪ supporting the Director of Music in whole-school productions and concerts


Knowledge, Experience and Profile 

Required Qualifications / Skills:

A relevant degree in education or Music / performing arts and professional teaching qualification is essential

▪ A passion for music and the ability to share this with as wide a range of students as possible

▪ Excellent subject knowledge and an interest in current developments in music

▪ Fluency in written and spoken English to enable effective communication with students and in working relationships

▪ The desire to put the wellbeing each student at the heart of what they do and can demonstrate how they will support the development of the Wellington values.

▪ Excellent inter-personal skills

▪ Honesty, integrity, compassion, flexibility and a good sense of humour

▪ Strong organizational, self-management and problem-solving skills


Desirable Qualifications / Skills:

▪ Experience teaching music to young people from the age of 8 years

▪ Experience in directing/producing concerts and involvement in school productions

▪ Be a confident pianist and accompanist;

▪ Experience teaching and mentoring EAL students

▪ Experience using ICT to enrich students learning
