Job overview

Music Teacher

September 2019 start (Full or Part-Time considered)

Canary Wharf College Crossharbour is a new school where opportunities to fast-track to leadership roles are plentiful within our growing and highly-motivated team.

The Role

We are seeking a highly-ambitious Music Teacher for September 2019 to lead the development of an outstanding department in our expanding school.

The successful candidate will lead the design of an inspiring subject curriculum and establish the direction for teaching, learning and assessment to ensure that all students achieve excellent outcomes. The role will also include an opportunity to contribute to the design and delivery of our Drama curriculum at Key Stage 3.

In addition, current priorities for our Music and Drama team include the development of an instrumental programme for year 7 students and training students in our brand-new Mac studio. Our subject specialists take pride in sharing their passions with our students - a cross-trust Carol Service, a whole-school vocal performance from ‘The Greatest Showman’ and a performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ are just a few recent projects.

You would be supported by a senior team with extensive experience in leading Music provision, whilst also being encouraged to take ownership of the aims of the department. Departmental and whole school responsibilities will provide excellent experience for a successful candidate who is looking to progress to senior leadership.

Our School

Canary Wharf College Crossharbour is a new school with the highest ambitions for young people in our community. We opened in 2016 and moved into our new site with excellent facilities in September 2018. The school currently has 160 students from Years 7-9, taught in small class sizes, and will expand up to Year 11.

We have a strong educational ethos ‘To Live, Share and Celebrate a Love of Learning’ and we embed this ethos by aligning everything that we do with four key principles:

• Curriculum at the Centre: we remain ‘obsessed’ with what we teach our students.

• Exceptional Teaching: we have a clear pedagogical strategy and support every member of staff to be able to delivery consistently excellent teaching.

• Exemplary Behaviour: we have clear principles informing behaviour and conduct to achieve the highest standards of behaviour for learning.

• Valuing every child: we work tirelessly to alleviate barriers to individual student achievement

The school is made up of committed and aspirational staff led by visionary and experienced trustees and senior leaders. Staff development is a key priority and we boast a unique collaborative approach where, through weekly 1:1 meetings, senior leaders support all staff to take ownership for their own development, both by providing high quality guidance and by promoting teachers to read widely, make research-informed decisions, as well as attend tailored internal and external CPD.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who:

• Is committed to the school ethos and is enthusiastic about joining an expanding school.

• Has the vision, drive and leadership skills to develop an outstanding department

• Has high expectations and a commitment to raising standards.

• Demonstrates excellent teaching practice and shows significant evidence of improving the outcomes of pupils.

• Has excellent communication skills, with an ability to motivate and inspire others.

• Is resilient, with an ability to remain motivated when tackling challenging tasks.

• Demonstrates excellent musical ability on own instrument/voice, with an ability to play piano and sing to a competent standard.

Applicants must have qualified teacher status.

About Canary Wharf College Crossharbour

About Us

Canary Wharf College Crossharbour is a new free school with the most incredible journey both having been undergone and still ahead. It has the highest ambitions for young people in our community on the Isle of Dogs and across the wider borough of Tower Hamlets. We opened in 2016 at the top of one of our primary schools and moved into a new interim purpose built site with excellent facilities in September 2018. As of September 2022, the school will be at capacity in its current site with 450 students from Years 7-11, taught in small class sizes, and will expand into sixth form once we have opened our permanent 1200 strong school, currently scheduled for September 2024 opening.

Growth

Canary Wharf College Crossharbour is part of a growing Multi-Academy Trust. Our ethos is to 'Live, Share and Celebrate a Love of Learning in a Christian Environment, whilst welcoming those of other faiths and cultures.'

We are the third school founded by Sarah Counter. Canary Wharf College East Ferry, established in 2011, and Canary Wharf College Glenworth, founded in 2014, are both primary schools educating children aged 4-11. The Trust is a friendly and welcoming community, made up of committed and experienced practitioners who are keen to collaborate and share knowledge and expertise across phases.
