Background

A Curriculum Music Teacher would be a part time teacher, expected to teach up to 15 curriculum music lessons as well as any additional responsibilities attributed to the role and curriculum time allowance designated in lieu of such activities. Part time teachers are encouraged to be involved in the full boarding duties and activities as their ‘Full Time’ colleagues.

The Music teacher would be expected to lead 3 music activities per week as agreed with the Head of Music.

Responsible To: The Head of Music and Assistant Head Academic.

Post Holder Responsibilities:

• Inspirational teaching of Music throughout the school displaying excellent classroom practice

• Liaising with colleagues throughout the department to ensure continuity and progression from year group to year group

• Contribute to the curriculum development for Music

• Plan and deliver appropriate syllabuses, materials and schemes of work to classes taught

• Contribute to the identification of prospective Music Scholars and support their preparation for scholarship auditions etc is as good as it can possibly be for each individual candidate, liaising with the Head of Music and the individual’s VMT

• To help on a day to day basis with the administration of a busy department. This would include contact with parents and regular contact with colleagues in the wider school

• To assist in liaising between the music peripatetic teachers and the staff within the school and to help organise & oversee music exams, outside visits and concerts such as music festivals and instrumental days 

• To be available to listen to and encourage children during their individual and group practice

• To help assist in running groups such as choirs and ensembles as part of the activities provision

• Assisting in preparation for concerts (including preparation of the concert hall, e.g. the moving of music stands, chairs, instruments etc) and other musical productions, producing concert programmes, promoting future events and keeping all relevant parties informed. To include photocopying and preparation of music.

• There is the possibility for the successful candidate to also provide individual instrumental lessons in addition to the contract hours of class teaching
