The Computer Science Teacher reports to the MYP & DP Coordinators and Head of Upper and Senior School. Computer Science Teacher creates a positive and supportive learning environment and develops activities so that students are able to practice the language in a meaningful context. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver Computer Science to MYP and DP students


Essential Requirements:

·     Fully Qualified Teacher;

·     Degree in computer science or a related field;

·     Academic background in MYP & DP - Computer Science / Design;

·     MYP and DP trainings desirable;

·     Excellent lifelong learning skills;

·     Excellent organisational and time management skills;

·     Adaptable and flexible to the requirements of the school;

·     Commitment to the values and approaches of an International Baccalaureate education;

·     A consistent commitment to high levels of pastoral care;

·     Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English;

·     Ability to be flexible in an ever-changing world of education;

·     Positive and innovative mindset even in challenging situations;

·     Expectations of high standards of learning and behaviour from students; and the ability to challenge and support all students on an individual basis;

·     A willingness to contribute to the wider school community;

·     Caring nature towards students and families;

·     Compliant with Child Safeguarding Requirements

·     Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, parents and staff;

·     Ability to teach some lessons of PYP Computer Science, if needed;

·     Experience to code proficiently in 2 or more contemporary CS languages (for example Java, JavaScript, Python)


Main Responsibilities:

●     To plan and deliver Computer Science lessons in accordance to MYP & DP requirements;

●     To teach and educate students according to the educational needs, abilities and attainment potential of individual students;

●     To assign, correct and mark work carried out by students;

●     To assess students following the MYP & DP guidelines;

●     To promote the IB philosophy through lessons;

●     To promote and educate pupils about academic honesty;

●     To translate current technological developments into student experiences;

●     To record and report students' progress as per the school's guidelines;

●     To communicate, consult and co-operate with other members of the school staff and parents/guardians to ensure the best interest of students;

●     To adopt the role of form tutor to care for the pastoral needs of the students;

●     To be responsible for student progress, welfare and outcomes (IB DP).


Additional Responsibilities:

●     ​​Contribute to the extra-curricular activity programme (Brookes Plus) and participate in school activities such as assemblies, evening events, and open days

●     Collaborate with members of the school community to build a team environment which supports students’ learning, including ‘Buzz Groups’

●     Embrace our position as an International Boarding School, with the responsibilities that this entails

●     Take on duties at break and lunch times, together with evenings and a weekend session supervising boarding students

●     When on duty, be mindful of the zone assigned, ensuring students are safe at all times, providing the necessary games and equipment where appropriate.

●     Participate in professional development sessions as required, demonstrating enthusiasm and a willingness to improve
