Job overview

Reporting to: Executive Director of Education

The Astrea Academy Trust is a multi-academy trust which is committed to inspiring beyond measure. Our Academies – primary, secondary and all-through – do not subscribe to the ‘schooling’ stance of a results-driven philosophy but rather state emphatically that education is about much more than just attainment.

The National Leader of English and Literacy will join a team of lead professionals that take responsibility for the quality of individual subject provision, curriculum teaching and assessment across both Primary and Secondary phases. Accountable for performance improvement, attainment and progress in English and Literacy across the Trust, the National Leader will work collaboratively with Trust Academies and closely with the Executive Director of Education to accelerate improvement and raise standards.

This truly unique cross-phase role will see the National Leader of English and Literacy establish best practice and enhance the delivery of the subject, with the aim of developing and increasing the provision of outstanding teaching and learning. If you are motivated by contributing to a culture of constant improvement, and if you are seeking to improve outcomes for young people then we would love to hear from you.

Astrea Academy Trust is committed to high quality professional development and career opportunities for all staff, we are also passionate about cultivating our own talented workforce. With this in mind, although you will ideally have cross-phase experience, we would welcome applicants with either a Primary or Secondary bias with a view to support and develop the individual through specific CPD.

With twenty academies within the group across South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire, plus the purpose built, all-though Astrea Academy Sheffield due to open in September 2018, the Trust continues to grow and inspire beyond measure. To complement the intrinsic rewards which we award to our teachers and to demonstrate our commitment to them, in September 2017 the Astrea Academy Trust awarded all teaching staff a 2% pay increase which was above the recommended increase of 1% from the School Teachers Review Body.

We foster a collaborative culture where talented individuals can produce their best work. We welcome all applicants who meet the criteria in the accompanying recruitment pack to apply for this exciting role via the application process. To find out more about the role please contact Vicki Russell, Recruitment Officer at recruitment@astreaacademytrust.org

Closing date: 14/03/18
Interview Dates: TBC

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Posts are subject to enhanced DBS checks.
