Job overview

NEWLY QUALIFIED TEACHER OF SCIENCE

REQUIRED FOR SEPTEMBER 2017

Grade TMS

Finham Park School is the Lead School in the recently established Finham Park Multi Academy Trust. Primary and secondary schools in Finham Park MAT will set out to pioneer, innovate and deliver a “World Class” education for all.

Finham Park School was judged as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2015, for the second time. It is a Specialist College in Mathematics & Computing, a National Support School, and Leading Edge School.  It is highly over-subscribed with a Sixth Form of over 300 students.  We have recently been accredited to the World Class Schools Organisation – endorsing that Finham Park is a place where all our students develop a love of “learning for life”.

We have a large and successful Science Faculty where 15 teachers are committed to developing active learning strategies to challenge and inspire all students. The Faculty is well resourced with recently refurbished laboratories and extensive resources. It has strong links both internally with other STEM subjects within the school and externally such as our link with our partner school in the USA. Science is extremely popular GCSE, Advance and Vocational Levels.

As a training school and experienced department we offer a thorough mentoring programme for NQTs including reduced contact time and a dedicated mentor who will meet with you regularly to offer guidance on marking and planning. In addition, as a lead department in a lead school we are well versed in showcasing outstanding teaching and offering CPD, both within the school and across the MAT.

The Governors are seeking to appoint an innovative and highly motivated newly qualified teacher to join a strong and enthusiastic team of teachers who are committed to delivering a high quality, lively, interesting, and mathematically rich curriculum to challenge and inspire all our students.  The successful candidates will be required to teach Science to Key Stages 3 and 4 and there may be an opportunity to teach your specialism to Advanced Level. A Physics or Chemistry specialism would be highly advantageous.

Finham Park is a popular and successful 11 -18 comprehensive school situated in the south west of Coventry. It has an excellent reputation within the local community as well as nationally and internationally. The school was re-accredited as a World Class School in July 2018.

Ofsted described the school as a place where there is a strong culture of learning and a proven track record of academic success, with students consistently making above average levels of progress in their studies in both Key Stages 4 and 5. The behaviour of the students is Outstanding.

Their eagerness for learning allows our teachers to deliver stimulating and innovative lessons that result in rapid progress. There is a clear focus on the development of teaching and learning through engagement in national research programmes with a strong structure of support at all levels. In addition, there is personalised programme of professional development and extensive opportunities for career progression.

The school is well resourced. New technologies are widely available and are helping to transform teaching and learning across a diverse range of subjects. In addition, ongoing investment has been made to the whole site - recently by upgrading science laboratories, STEM workrooms and the construction of a sixth form centre.
