Salary: Grade D, SP 7-11 £15,095-£16,339 pro rata ( Full Time Equivalent £20,092-£21,748)
Hours of Work: 32.5 hours per week term time only + 5 INSET days
We are looking for the perfect person who has the relevant skills, knowledge and experience to join our school and support our new provision for a small group of learners who experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties.
There are places for up to 12 children in the Academy’s Nurture Unit provision, namely ‘The Nest’ - with all pupils having an Education, Health and Care plan, with SEMH as their primary need. Staffing in the unit will include one class teacher and four teaching support assistants and the unit is led by our Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion.
The Nest’s curriculum and environment has been carefully designed to ensure that children are fully supported in order to achieve and succeed; removing any barriers to learning in the hope that some may be able to reintegrate back into mainstream provision at Thames.
The curriculum is largely based on the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 and is differentiated accordingly to meet each child’s stage of development. The curriculum is underpinned by ‘The Six Principles Of Nurture’ which include:
- Children's learning is understood developmentally.
- The classroom offers a safe base.
- The importance of nurture for the development of wellbeing.
- Language is a vital means of communication.
- All behaviour is communication.
- The importance of transition in children's lives.
All pupils have access to ‘specialist support’ which includes outreach work from the Blackpool Schools’ Inclusion Team, Educational Psychology services, a Primary Mental Health worker and Speech and Language specialists.
