Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN point

Permanent Contract - Required from January 2022

We require an exceptional teacher for Special School settings, who is passionate about providing the best possible education and care for vulnerable students in an inspiring learning environment. This post will involve leading classes in a primary type model for a small group of students. Post holders will deliver the majority of the curriculum with specialist areas such as PE, Art and D of E delivered by specialist staff.

It couldn’t be a more exciting time to join the Barnsley and Kirklees Special Provision Partnership. We’re a new, bold partnership, formed through the collaboration of Springwell Learning Community, Greenacre School and Joseph Norton Academy. Through our collaboration we provide a unique opportunity for our children, our staff and the communities we serve. This post will suit candidates who have the commitment, passion and resilience to make a difference to pupils who have a range of social, emotional, mental health and special educational needs.

This position would suit teachers with a proven track record of exceptional practice, who are able to work with vulnerable pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Individuals who are passionate about making a real difference to student’s life chances and supporting them in achieving their potential in essential life skills, which is a high priority for Springwell Learning Community. The ability to be creative and use imaginative flair to engage is essential, along with having resilience, drive and high expectations to inspire students to achieve.

We are looking for a team-player with presence, passion and a commitment to inclusion with the ability to work creatively for the benefit of pupils at our school. In return you will have the opportunity to work with great colleagues as part of a supportive team and the ability to develop your career in our specialist setting.

Springwell Learning Community is an extremely special place to work. Attendance is high. Exclusions are exceedingly low and pupils make good progress over time. Parents comment that their children settle quickly and enjoy coming to school. Pupils say they feel safe and cared for. The school's approach, including nurture principles, social pedagogy and restorative practice, is unique in the district and we work hard to provide the best possible experience for the pupils we support.

Should you be successfully appointed, you’ll be working alongside dedicated, talented and highly skilled people. If you would like to meet us before you apply, please call Rachel Hanby, Senior Business Support Officer on 01226 291133 to arrange a school visit. Two Schools - One Community

Springwell Learning Community is the umbrella name for Springwell Special Academy and Springwell Alternative Academy.  Springwell Special Academy provides cross-phase education for Barnsley children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Springwell Alternative Academy works in partnership with local primary and secondary schools to provide Day 6 provision.

Both of these schools are part of the Barnsley and Kirklees Special Provision Partnership, formed through additional collaboration of Greenacre School, Joseph Norton Academy and Springwell Learning Community.

At Springwell, our full time staff of around 100 is dedicated to ensuring that every pupil can settle quickly and is supported to make good progress in line with our vision and mission.

Both academies are the same as any other in that we have high expectations of our pupils. We build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively, we support pupils to access a broad range of subjects and qualifications, including GCSEs and we provide opportunities and facilities for pupils to develop special interests and talents through a range of extra-curricular activities.

However, we are different to other academies in that places at our special school are accessed via the SEND consultation process and places at our alternative academy are accessed via Fair Access.

Springwell Learning Community is a specialist provision for pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.  A number of our pupils have secondary needs including difficulties with their communication and learning.
