Part time.  8.30 am - 4.30 pm.  3 days a week

Start date: September 2021

The Holmewood School is an innovative, small independent Special Educational Needs school, meeting the needs of children with high functioning autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, language and communication difficulties, and specific learning difficulties. We are proud to hold Advanced Autism Accreditation Status by the National Autistic Society.

We are recruiting a band 6 OT to join our multidisciplinary team on a part time basis, working with our current Band 7 therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistants. The post holder will conduct assessments, and provide tailored long term and short term interventions to our students who are aged from 7 to 19. The successful candidate will join an established multidisciplinary team of occupational therapists, psychodynamic therapists and speech and language therapists.

The post holder will also work closely with education colleagues and the senior leadership team to provide appropriate OT input and training, as well as contribute to our holistic approach to mental and physical wellbeing within the school.

The successful candidates' role will be interesting and diverse, working with young people who present with complex mental health and special educational needs associated with their diagnosis of autism. A flexible approach, a sense of humour, reliability, punctuality, stamina, resilience and the ability to work under pressure are essential.

We can offer you the benefits of working to a school calendar with a 40 week year (12 weeks paid holidays to be taken during school breaks) and an excellent professional development package. We are part of the Cavendish Education Group, a unique group of educational independent day and boarding schools. We work closely with the other schools in our group, have extensive community links and believe in ‘thinking differently’ and being as creative as possible in our approach.

To be considered for this role we would expect candidate to demonstrate:

- Registration with the HCPC and other OT related organisations and hold relevant OT qualifications.

- Previous experiences working with autistic young people (may include other capacities).

Please contact Bridget Young, Head of School, on 020 3908 8991 if you have any questions or would like to discuss the role.

Closing date: Monday 17th May 2021 at 9am

Interview date: Week commencing Monday 24th May 2021

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check prior to employment.  All candidates are also required to declare any cautions or convictions at the point of application.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.  We encourage diversity in our staffing in order for children and young people to see themselves represented in society.

About The Holmewood School

The Holmewood School is a growing independent day school for neurodivergent children and young people aged from 7 to 19 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our young people are broadly similar to their mainstream peers in their academic ability but require support with communication and interaction, executive functioning, anxiety, functional skills and other needs related to their diagnosis. Many of our young people also have coaccurring diagnoses, such as ADHD and dyslexia.

We were awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted following their visit in May 2022 and we are proud to have Advanced Accreditation Status granted by the National Autistic Society.
