Job overview

Casual hours

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for someone well-qualified in English to join us at Outwood Academy Haydock to help students secure the best qualifications in English of which they are capable. As a one-to-one tutor, you will work with students singly or in small groups, to help consolidate their skills or work on identified weaknesses. In this you will be supported by the Head of English and teachers in the department.

Our one-to-one tutors are often qualified teachers, usually in English, who may have had a career break or who are looking for a position with flexibility. One-to-one tutors are employed on a casual basis and hours can be negotiated at interview. We consider each applicant individually on merit and welcome applications from people considering a career in English teaching, graduates in arts and humanities subjects, and others.

The successful applicant will put the needs of young people first, have a passion for learning, excellent interpersonal skills and will be both ICT and emotionally literate. Tutors will be required to prepare their own resources to meet the needs of the students but to also use resources where directed by the Head of Department or the Director of English.

The academy is popular and we have a talented team of staff, who are committed to improving the life chances of all students irrespective of their background or starting points.

We are an 11-16 academy, based in the former mining village of Haydock, within the large Merseyside town of St Helens.

The Academy became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2022 and as a member of the Outwood Family we believe in putting Students First, raising standards and transforming lives.

We are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. With a holistic view of education, we aim to create a safe and secure learning community that encourages healthy and sustainable lifestyles and empowers students to pursue career pathways they will find stimulating and deeply rewarding.

Hourly rate:

£30.62 for tutors with QTS

£22.05 for tutors with a relevant degree but without QTS

£15.26 for tutors with no degree or QTS
