About our School
Easthorpe School is an Ofsted Outstanding independent specialist provision serving children and young people in the East Midlands who live with their families, foster carers or in residential children’s homes.
The school first opened it’s doors to pupils in November 2022 and we are expanding the team to support the increase in pupil numbers in the Lower School (7-13yrs) provision.
Class sizes do not exceed 6 pupils and are supported by a qualified class teacher with up to 2 teaching assistants.
Our school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and a range of diagnosis which may include Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attachment needs and mild/moderate learning needs.
This job is an excellent opportunity for experienced teaching assistants to help shape the growth and development of our new provision and enrich the lives of our pupils. This role will give you the chance to further develop your skills in the classroom whilst also giving you the time and support to develop a key area of the school provision suited to your experience and interests (food hygiene, Forest School, sport, therapy, emotional literacy)

Role responsibilities
- Dedicated to mentoring and supporting one pupil or else a small group of no more than six pupils
- Supporting the Classroom Teacher during lessons
- Reporting on pupils’ progress and concerns, and liaising with other School staff to ensure pupils needs are met
- Supervision of pupils during non-classroom time including extra-curricular activities and school trips
- Assisting with lesson planning and classroom preparation
- Setting work where appropriate, and marking
- Building positive relationships with your pupil/s and driving interaction and positive learning outcomes
Requirements
- Have a strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills.
- Previous experience in a similar role ie, Teaching Assistant
- Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an Educational setting
- Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school ie, Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc..
- Experience of behaviour management and techniques
- Committed to professional development and willing to learn
- Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS Check, cost of which will be met by Selwyn Hall School.

Situated in Ruddington on the edge of Nottingham in the East Midlands, Easthorpe School provides specialist education for 7-18 year olds with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH).
Our pupils may have a number of diagnoses including: ASD, ACES, ADHD, FASD, anxiety and/or, communication and interaction, cognition, and learning needs.
Our Educational Approach
We are passionate about what we do and that’s providing a high-quality, aspirational education for children offering individual learning programmes. We take a holistic view of each of our children, offering individual care and a complete range of support that’s constantly evolving with their needs including:
- Small bespoke groupings of 4-6 children plus a class teacher/tutor and at least one Teaching Assistant per group across our spacious site, with appropriate boundaries in place to safeguard all children.
- Working together to provide each pupil with a tailored, diverse and appropriate education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes engagement, inspires learning and encourages achievement.
- Offering safe learning areas for our younger pupils to ensure they are able to thrive and grow while receiving high quality teaching based on the National Curriculum. Teachers adapt the pupils learning to suit their ability and needs.
- A broad curriculum leading to external accreditation at GCSE level, with enhancement opportunities for vocational qualifications such as functional skills, ASDAN,Entry Level and AQA awards. In addition to these enterprise-driven qualifications, Entry Level Employability Skills and Towards Independence programmes will be offered
- On-site team equipped and trained to support children with individual communication needs.
- Trained staff to work with and support young people with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the impact that their experiences may have had on them. By working in a trauma informed way we can help our young people to have a better future.
