An opportunity has arisen for a talented and ambitious Cover Leader of Learning (Teacher) to join our school, with the ability to provide cover for a range of subjects across a range of key stages. 

Our teachers work from home in the UK to deliver live lessons via our online classrooms where students are encouraged to participate and join in with activities and if you are interested in joining us to improve the lives of our students, we would love to hear from you!

About the role

  • Job Title – Cover Leader of Learning (Teacher)
  • Location – Based in the UK - working remotely from home
  • Start Date – ASAP
  • Salary Range - £22,000 - £25,000 (FTE) per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

Position and working hours: 

  • Part-time hours varying from 0.4 to 0.8 FTE hours per week
  • Permanent Contract
  • Live Cover Teaching is from Monday to Friday
  • Teaching is between 8.30am-4.00pm, meetings, co-curricular activities and training 4:00pm-4.40pm
  • Contracted to 39 weeks, 35 weeks term time and 4 weeks directed time pro-rated based on agreed FTE

The successful candidate will:

  • Effectively deliver course materials provided by the class teacher who is absent
  • Inspire, motivate, and provide purposeful learning experiences and guidance for students within the school
  • Be up to date on current research and emerging pedagogy and will actively engage in professional development with the learning community
  • Take a leading role in maintaining a positive and inspirational learning climate and, where appropriate, the integration of your subject learning across the curriculum
  • Assist in maintaining and developing a high-quality school environment and profile and act as a role model by their professional conduct and disposition
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and any class or group of students
  • Provide guidance and advice to students on educational matters
  • Participate in whole school meetings and staff CPD opportunities
  • Outside of student term time, support the effective, caring and well-organised induction of new students to the school
  • Undertake any other work as specified by their line manager

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The candidate will be qualified up to degree level in an academic subject area and will ideally have a recognised teaching qualification, a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status.

  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the correct Safeguarding procedure
  • Knowledge of the education sector in a teaching profession or above
  • Ability to work well in teams
  • Change and business improvement-focused
  • Able to work effectively in dynamic and changing environments
  • Experience of working in the primary, secondary or college sector
  • Experience of working in state or independent school sector as a cover teacher or otherwise
  • Computer Literate with the ability to teach online using technology applications
  • Ability to cover a range of subjects and key stages, with course material provided for you

Skills and attributes – Desirable

  • Current or previous experience in a pastoral role

Specifically, you will have:

  • Experience in a previous cover role
  • Knowledge of best ways to engage students in your cover lessons
  • The capability to drive best practices and have a reputation for delivering high quality material.
  • The ability to work well within a team, while having the courage to raise new ideas and support the implementation within the department
  • A keen interest within the online teaching and learning environment, with a passion for the learning and development of students.
  • A flexible, highly energetic approach and the ability to thrive in a business with a fast changing, collaborative, delivery culture.
  • Considerable interpersonal communication skills with the ability to form good relationships both internally and externally.
  • The ability to work independently where necessary but in a collaborative team environment where appropriate.
  • An ambition to place King’s Interhigh offering at the forefront of the marketplace.

Our School is part of the Inspired Education Group

Inspired Online Schools use state-of-the-art digital technology and operates two established divisions – King's InterHigh, a non-selective fee-paying online secondary school, established in 2005 and a B2B division including Academy 21, serving other educational providers, schools, local authorities and other public bodies.

Our successful candidates will join a talented team providing excellent online educational experiences for our students whose ages range between 8 and 18. The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering their subject specialism/s and come from either a state school and/or independent school background. Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will be used to deadlines, have experience of creating effective learning resources and having a key focus on the academic monitoring and progress of the students.

About our Roles

Here at InterHigh and Academy21, our Leaders of Learning (Teacher) contracts do differ from mainstream schools due to the nature of our business and ways of operating. As a Leader of Learning (Teacher) you will be contracted to 42 weeks of the year, up to 38 of these weeks are contact weeks with the students, with the remaining weeks being available for additional activity such as course writing.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During the school day there are allocated breaks in the morning, lunch time and in the afternoon, with breaks in between each lesson also.

Our lessons are 40 minutes long which ensures the time spent in the classroom is value added and effective. A full time Leader of Learning could be given a timetable with up to 33 lessons, equating to 22 hours of contact time.

As a business and a school, we do not follow the Teachers Mainstream Payscale, we operate in line with our own salary bandings. Further information specifically for each role will be available via the job adverts.
