Tor view School are looking to recruit an outstanding Outdoor Education Instructor to join our Teaching team!

We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and committed teacher who will expand the learning experiences of our pupils.  

The successful candidate will be teaching and supporting our young people who may have autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, ADHD and associated complex needs.

Aspris Devon Childrens Services is made up of two schools, Quay View School (Bere Alston)  and Tor View School (Tavistock) and four children's homes based in Tavistock, Gunnislake and Okehampton. We specialise in care and education of children and young people aged 7-19 with autism, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and SEMH. The safeguarding and wellbeing of our young people who may have experienced challenges in their lives is always paramount; along with encouragement to achieve their full potential

We are looking for an inspirational and dedicated individual to join our  team, with proven track records in achieving high standards of delivery in their area of responsibility: 

Key areas of responsibility:

• Planning and preparation of outdoor programme delivery and/or indoor based training sessions where necessary.
• Delivery of activities for which you hold the appropriate qualifications, or for which you have been in-house assessed, and assisting alongside staff of a relevant level of qualification or experience.
• The successful candidate will need to have the required qualifications ideally to lead:
• Moorland and or mountain walking
• Watersports
• Climbing
• Cycling
• Land/Forest skill activities.

The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher and ideally have experience of teaching and supporting young people within SEN, along with the following characteristics:

Resilience – We support some of the most vulnerable children in society who have varying degrees of emotional behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated difficulties so there will be times where your resilience is challenged.  

Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs.  Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.

Organisation – You will have experience of organising, planning and teaching well-structured lessons tailored to the needs of the pupils as well as monitoring each students learning needs, adapting teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of each pupil.

Caring – Our young people require the best care we can offer.  If you are a naturally caring and compassionate person, this is the role for you.

Attentive – No two tasks will be the same so being attentive to understand the needs of the young people we support is vital
