Job overview

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned

 Dalkeith High School is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary in Midlothian, Scotland. As of the most recent inspection, there were 808 students on the school roll. In 2003, Dalkeith

High School relocated to Dalkeith Schools’ Community Campus, a joint campus accommodating three schools: Dalkeith High School, St David’s RC High School and Saltersgate School. The town of Dalkeith has a population of 12,000, and can be accessed by the A6106 motorway and Eskbank railway station. The school motto translates from Latin as ‘hard work prevails’. The school’s associated primary schools are Danderhall, King’s Park, Tynewater, and Woodburn.

The Dalkeith High School vision is to enable all young people to succeed in an inclusive, respectful and stimulating environment. Through dedicated teaching Dalkeith aims to inspire pupils to become active, happy, and self assured lifelong learners, prepared for their role as responsible citizens in the global community.

A key aim of the school is to elevate attainment and achievement through the elevation of academic dedication and ambition, while working in partnership with parent and staff to achieve the best possible outcomes for pupils.

“Teachers used questioning well and included a wide variety of learning experiences in lessons. Most lessons were of high quality. Teachers made highly effective use of ICT to enhance learning and motivate pupils. Almost all pupils worked purposefully and often at a brisk pace. Most showed enthusiasm when answering questions, using interactive whiteboards and collaborating in group work.”
