Salary to train: £21,832 plus tuition fees of approximately £9,000 paid

This is a great opportunity to be paid to train to become a teacher in a friendly, dynamic school where all can thrive and staff are highly valued.

We are seeking a trainee teacher to join our highly successful school. We have a large mixed sixth form of over 500 students studying A levels and you will teach across all age groups.  The School is very successful and most students progress to the top universities.  The departments organises many ‘Wider Opportunities’, including trips, study days and lunchtime clubs, and the school prides itself in its co-curricular programme offering, especially in sports and performing arts.

This one-year, employment-based course offers you the opportunity to attain ‘Qualified Teacher Status’ and a PGCE. You will spend the majority of your time at Tiffin School with one day per week dedicated to training and a three to six-week placement in another school.

In the first instance, candidates should submit a C.V. and brief covering letter to the school to vacancies@tiffin.kingston.sch.uk, explaining why they would like to be considered for the position.  We use both the Schools Direct Scheme through the Kingston Schools Direct Scheme which partners with the University of Roehampton, and the Teacher apprenticeship scheme through the University of Buckingham.  Shortlisted candidates will then be directed to apply for either the ‘School Direct (salaried)’ course via UCAS or an apprenticeship scheme that will lead to the award of qualified teacher status and PGCE.  Please see the teaching brochure on the website.   The position is suitable for an ambitious graduate of a relevant degree.

Here are some of the key reasons Tiffin is a great School in which to work:

• a vibrant and friendly staff, with a diverse mix of teachers and associate staff

“an amazing school environment. Supportive and friendly staff. Incredible extra-curricular opportunities. An environment where learning for its own sake (rather than just for passing exams) is encouraged and fostered.” (current teacher)

• very bright and able students who are motivated and eager to learn, in an environment of excellent behaviour

“as our son departs the school he certainly has an exceptional set of qualifications in his pocket, but he carries with him so much more from his time as a Tiffinian: a thirst for learning and an enquiring mind; a keen sense of self-identify; strong peer friendships as well as a bucket-full of happy memories from his schooldays.” (ex-parent)

• an opportunity to teach your subject to a high level

“as I depart for University I would be very grateful if you could pass on my thanks to all the teachers who have helped and supported me over the last seven years and allowed me to

make the most of all the fantastic opportunities I have been given.” (ex-student)

• a commitment to professional development

• a location close to Kingston town centre, and excellent public transport links to Central  London, Tiffin is minutes away from the train and bus stations.  We are close to Richmond and Bushy Parks, and the Surrey countryside.  Our sports ground is beautifully situated with the River Thames and Hampton Court Palace very close by

About Tiffin School

Tiffin School is one of the foremost boys' selective schools in the country with a large Sixth Form which went mixed in 2019.

Tiffin is a great place to teach – it is a friendly, dynamic school where all can thrive and staff are highly valued. Conveniently situated near the centre of the beautiful London Borough of Kingston upon Thames, it is very easy to reach. Our students are bright, able and eager to learn, and we have an environment of excellent behaviour, allowing the opportunity to teach your subject to a high level.

Tiffin achieves excellent results at A Level and GCSE, as well as great success in achieving places for our students at the top universities. However, Tiffin is about far more than academic success; our aim is to develop the whole person.  Tiffin offers a wide range of superb opportunities for its students in our attempt to fulfil our vision of inspiring students to ‘engage, aspire and excel’.  Sport, Music, the Performing Arts, the House system, and an extensive programme of trips, provide regular opportunities for the students, and are offered by a staff that enthusiastically support this unique provision of co-curricular activities in a state school.

The move to make the Sixth Form mixed, the introduction of Google Chromebooks to all pupils and staff, and the significant recent capital expenditure in new buildings and facilities, all demonstrate our commitment to constantly develop the school for the future.

Tiffin offers an excellent place to teach and to develop one’s career in a stimulating, supportive and enjoyable education environment.
