The College

Abbey Gate College is situated in superb surroundings south of the historic city of Chester. It was founded as an independent coeducational 11-18 School in 1977 under the Deeside House Educational Trust, as a charitable foundation. Our Infant and Junior School is sited at Aldford, 2½ miles from the main site at Saighton. The College now numbers circa 480 pupils, including a Sixth Form. Academic results in all subjects are excellent and 100% pass rate at A level and GCSE is the norm. The majority of our Sixth Form students go on to university or other place of further education. The College has a three form entry at Year 7 from an annual Entrance Examination held in January; places are oversubscribed and there are waiting lists operating at some age groups in the College.

The Post

This role is part time (two afternoons per week- 4 lessons).

We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated teacher to join our innovative D&T Department. The successful candidate will teach across the year groups in Senior School.  A willingness to participate in extra-curricular activities, including trips and visits within the D&T framework or beyond is desirable.

The Department achieves excellent examination results and from September will comprise of one full time HOD, one part time member of staff and a full time D&T dedicated technician. The D&T Department team work together to develop outstanding practice and resources, and to develop the curriculum and schemes of work, particularly in light of recent changes to examinations. Valuing our pupils is a top priority and we offer a variety of opportunities and responses in order to tailor our teaching to the individual.

Curriculum

· Year 7 experience an introduction to D&T project work in a carousel format.

· Year 8 pupils carry out project work under the title ‘Manufacturing in batches.” Year 8 work is organised in a carousel format. Year 8 pupils are also given the chance to continue with D&T as a pre GCSE option in Year 9.

· Pupils who have chosen to continue with D&T in Year 9 will be in timetabled for the whole academic year rather than in rotation with other subjects.

· At present we offer Product Design at GCSE and A level.

· The successful candidate will teach a part time timetable. Involvement in departmental planning and supporting extra-curricular activities is expected.

The person appointed should demonstrate the following skills and qualities:-

· Have outstanding professional and personal qualities

· Be enthusiastic, innovative and willing to share creativity and positivity in both the classroom and the department

· Be committed to raising standards and monitoring pupil progress

· Be caring, supportive and willing to adapt their teaching to suit the needs of the pupils

· Be proficient with the use of ICT in the classroom including CAD and CAM.

· Be willing to assist with school trips and visits.

Salary

The salary for this position will depend upon the qualifications and relevant experience of the successful candidate.

The interview process will include; the candidates will meet the Headmistress, Deputy Heads and Head of Design and Technology and have a tour of the College. Candidates will be asked to prepare and deliver a lesson (details confirmed before interview).
