Based within the department of humanities, geography is taught at A level. The subject is seeing a growth in popularity, attracting a high percentage of gifted and talented students. Some choose to progress to study geography at university, with many gaining places at Russell Group universities.
You will be joining us at a time where we are investing in the department and there will be opportunities to be a part of its growth and development. We are also currently working with our local high schools to share good practice and encourage progression to the college.
Students undertake field work as part of their study programme and there is an opportunity for those students progressing to A2 to visit Sorrento and explore the theory of plate tectonics by visiting Mount Vesuvius.
You’ll be working with a genuinely enthusiastic and ambitious group of young people studying on a range of courses. That enthusiasm is resulting in some remarkable results: Last year, our A level pass rate rose to 99.6%, and 67.4% of our students gained a top grade. We also have consistently high student progression to positive destinations (HE, apprenticeships or employment), in excess of 98%, with many of our students gaining places at high and highest tariff universities.
These achievements – and the fact that we have been rated Outstanding by Ofsted - are a credit to our high-performing teaching and pastoral teams. In return for their efforts, we offer excellent opportunities for training, professional development and career progression. As the first sixth form college to be awarded Teaching School status and as a part of the Fylde Coast Teaching School Alliance, we also share best practice as we shape the future of teaching and support the educational leaders of the future.
Whether you’re experienced or newly-qualified, you have the commitment, passion and belief to deliver an exceptional learning experience. Then bring your talents to Blackpool Sixth – and enjoy all the support you need to achieve your professional goals.
