Job overview

Founded in 2015, Le Régent is a rapidly developing Swiss boarding and day school with an international academic programme. Approximately 200  students from Switzerland and around the world are educated in an ultra-modern campus in the heart of the Valais Alps in the stunning ski resort of Crans-Montana. Le Régent has been under the guidance of Institut Le Rosey (www.rosey.ch) since August 2019.

Le Régent follows a rigorous academic programme in English in preparation for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, while nurturing the individual talents of each student with its diverse extracurricular offering, including sports, arts, music and mountain activities.

About half of the school population are day students, boarding life is vibrant and many local children take the opportunity to experience boarding on a flexi model. Although probably non-resident, the successful candidate will have the positive outlook required to be part of a boarding community and provide a positive presence in the school.

As part of its growing IB Diploma programme, Le Régent would like to appoint part-time teachers of the mother tongues of its international student body. Although currently following English Language and Literature programmes, many would benefit from the opportunity to follow Literature courses in their first language both at the IB but in the preceding years Although these languages can vary from year to year, they often include Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Italian.

We would like to appoint qualified teachers with a university degree in the language and/or literature concerned ideally from one of the countries where the language is spoken, although we will consider all academic qualifications  since the option exists to share teaching with current Le Régent literature teachers.

Knowledge and experience of teaching IB “A Literature” courses would be a definite advantage but Le Régent will fund online training should this be necessary.

IB Higher Level (HL) and Standard level (SL) courses normally comprise 6 or 4 periods per week respectively and the teachers appointed would be paid a monthly salary based on the number of classes given.

The ability to be present at school for at least some of the classes is important but part of the teaching could take place online.  Occasional on-campus accommodation may be possible for visiting teachers.

UK APPLICANTS

Following the UK’s exit from the EU, the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons (AFMP) between Switzerland and the EU no longer applies to the UK, and UK nationals are considered third-state nationals (who, contrary to most third-state nationals, do not require a visa in order to enter Switzerland). Unfortunately, regulations to obtain a work permit are considerably tighter for third-state nationals than they are for most Europeans; getting a job offer is just one step of many. Preference has always been given to Swiss nationals, foreign nationals with a Swiss residence permit (C, B, L, S, or F ) and EU/EFTA citizens/permit holders, where candidates are equally qualified;  unfortunately, this rule now applies to UK nationals.

RECRUITMENT PROCEDURES

Vacant posts are registered with our regional employment centre and advertised via the European Employment System (EURES), on social media, on our school website and on this platform.

We reserve the right to appoint the right candidate ahead of the closing date. Appointment to take effect from September 2021.
