MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

Applications are invited for the post of MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT at New College School from March 2018. Reporting to the Premises Manager, the successful candidate will have good general maintenance skills in areas such as basic plumbing, carpentry, electrics and decorating. Some previous experience of maintenance work in a school, college or similar setting is desirable, but not a requirement. However, he or she will have a sympathy for working in a child-focused environment.

Hours of Work: 7.00am – 12 noon Monday - Friday

Specific duties include:

· Working with the Premises Manager to ensure the daily smooth running of the School and the daily good appearance of the School and its grounds

· Ensuring the School is unlocked each morning and essential services are working

· Assisting the Premises Manager with maintenance and decorating projects 

· Assisting the Premises Manager in ensuring rooms are set up for school activities and functions

· Assisting the Premises Manager in ensuring the school minibus is properly maintained

· Complying with health & safety regulations and safe working practices 

· With the Premises Manager, liaising with external contractors as needed

· Establishing good working relationships with all teaching and support staff to assist in a collective sense of responsibility for the fabric of the School

Salary on University Support Staff Scale according to experience. Six weeks’ holiday per annum plus bank holidays, a maximum of three weeks to be taken during school holidays. Enrolment in the Oxford Staff Pension Scheme if desired.

New College School is an independent day school for boys aged 4-13.  New College is one of Oxford’s oldest and best-known Colleges; the School is situated close to and is owned and governed by the College as an integral part of its operation. Some 20 of the School’s current pupils are the internationally-renowned New College choristers.
