The Role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Part-time Physics Technician from the 1st September 2020.  The hours you would be required to work are 32.5 hours per week (8.30am to 3.30pm (negotiable and some flexibility may be required), term time only plus 5 training days.

The School 

Founded in 1912, the school is rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted and secures some of the best examination results at GCSE and A level in the country. Almost all students progress to university with many attending the best Russell Group universities including Oxford, Cambridge and many others. 

We tailor our curriculum to ensure students are nurtured as well-rounded individuals, excelling in core subjects like Mathematics, English and the Sciences but who are also deeply knowledgeable about the Arts and Humanities. 

The successful applicant will be remunerated at a level representing their qualifications, skills and experience.

The Role

He/she will join a team of 4 technicians within the Faculty and be responsible to Head of Physics and the Head of Science:

• Putting out and collecting in of lesson materials for classes

• Preparation and assembly of apparatus and materials for practical lessons and demonstrations

• Maintenance, cleaning and, where possible, repair of equipment

• Maintenance of stocks of stationary, apparatus, consumables and safety equipment for the Department

• Maintenance of the physics apparatus inventory

• Work with members of the department to improve the efficiency of apparatus storage 

• Assist with the filing of resources

• Adopting safe working techniques in accordance with the School’s safety policy

• Photocopying for the Department

• Assistance in preparation of laboratories for open days and science club

• Covering for absent technicians

• Undertaking any duties within the Science faculty as may be requested by the Heads of Science Departments

• Support teachers/pupils in practical activities if requested by a teacher

The holder of this post should:

• Have the ability to work in a methodical, organised and tidy fashion

• Be familiar with the use of basic tools

• Have good communication skills

• Be able to work as part of a team

• Some ICT skills would be an advantage.

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is an academy school based in Altrincham, Cheshire for boys aged 11-18.

The school was founded in 1912. Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is a multi-ethnic seven-form entry 11-18 selective Academy School. It caters for boys who have been selected for a grammar school education from a wide area of South Manchester and North Cheshire. The academic results are outstanding and they place the School in the top 20 maintained schools in the country. Our GCSE results are strong in respect of 9/8 grades and our ‘A’ level results in respect of A*/A/B grades. The 2022 Ofsted Report graded the School as ‘Outstanding in all area’.
