Teacher of English and Humanities

Part-Time 0.4 FTE

M1 to UPS3: Salary £10,286 to £16,642

From January 2021

UTCN exists to develop the next generation of engineers and technology specialists and with a fabulous £10m building, £1.3m of specialist equipment, that’s exactly what we have achieved.  We have been open seven years and we are already one of the top performing UTCs in the country. We have a specialism in engineering, but we also cater for 14-19 age students with interests in Science, Computing and Mathematics. UTCN was graded ‘Good’ across all areas in May 2019.

English and literacy are, of course, fundamental to students’ futures. At UTCN, we see this, not just in terms of a qualification, but as a means of increasing students’ employability.  The English and History departments are well-resourced and currently comprises three specialist teachers working within a wider English & Humanities Faculty. This role is offered on a temporary basis until August 2022 in the first instance, however, a permanent role is likely to be available for the right candidate once we understand what our student numbers for 2022 are likely to be. We anticipate the teaching for this position to be on Monday and Wednesday each week.

At Key Stage 4, we teach GCSE AQA English Language 8700 and English Literature 8702. We teach Edexcel History and AQA Geography. The timetable for this role will include KS4 English and History, with a possibility of some Geography.  NQTs and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.

If you are an excellent teacher who has the:

• Capability to teach GCSE English and History

• Ability to deliver excellent results

• Capacity for hard work

• Passion to enthuse young people about English and History

• Flexibility to teach classes split with existing members of the department

• Determination to ensure UTCN is the top provider of its type in the country

Then we want to hear from you. For further information and to apply, please see our website www.utcn.org.uk

About University Technical College Norfolk

University Technical Colleges are a new concept in education. They offer 14-19 year olds the opportunity to take a highly regarded, full time, technically-oriented course of study. They are equipped to the highest standard, sponsored by a university and offer clear progression routes into higher education or further learning in work.

The students combine hand and mind to learn in a very practical way, integrating national curriculum requirements with the technical and vocational elements. The UTC ethos and curriculum is heavily influenced by local and national employers who also provide support and work experience for students.

They are sub-regional, taking students from a wide geographical area. This reduces negative impact for any one local school in terms of student roll.

UTCs specialise in subjects that require technical and modern equipment, for example, engineering, product design, health sciences, construction, and land and environmental services.

However they all teach business skills and the use of ICT. The chosen specialism reflects the university's areas of excellence and the needs of local employers.

A fundamental principle of UTCs is that they do not judge students on their past performance. Students are given new opportunities and new ways of learning which allow them to achieve to a higher level than they may have done before.
