Salary Grade: MPS/UPS (if post threshold)

Contract Type: Permanent, 0.4 FTE

Closing Date: Tuesday 24 May 2022 at 9.00 a.m.

Interview Date: Interviews on application

Start date: September 2022

Our sixth form has significantly expanded in recent years following the Outstanding OFSTED rating. Due to high quality teaching and positive outcomes, a significant number of students opt for Social Science subjects and go on to study them at university. The faculty provision is unusually broad for a school sixth form and includes A levels in Sociology, Psychology, Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Business Studies as well as Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology. Psychology, Business Studies and Health and Social Care are also taught in KS4.

We are looking for a new team member from September 2022. Our preferred specialism would be Sociology up to A-level with a willingness to deliver Level 3 Applied Diploma Criminology. Experience of this course would be desirable, though full support and training will be provided if required. However, we would also be interested in hearing from people who have an interest in teaching other subjects within our faculty.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Passionate about their subject(s); able to inspire students and adept at relating real-world contexts to the social sciences curriculum.
  • Committed to supporting students to achieve their goals regardless of their prior attainment levels, aligning with our core purpose of maintaining an inclusive, diverse sixth form.
  • Willing to collaborate within a small but growing team with an increased range of subjects on offer.
  • Interested in contributing to our key development goals: closing attainment gaps through high-quality literacy teaching, inclusive teaching practices and explicit consideration of diversity throughout our curriculum.

In exchange, we offer you:

  • The chance to join a friendly, supportive and reflective team
  • Strong opportunities for ongoing professional development; through our Trust’s comprehensive programme of professional development and generous financial support for external opportunities (e.g. MSc)
  • The chance to work for a school where staff wellbeing and workload considerations are at the heart of decision-making.
  • A highly inclusive approach to flexible working: speak to us about part-time or other needs.

Ofsted report

“The school has an extremely positive ethos which permeates all aspects of its work. This is considerably enhanced by students’ outstanding contribution to the life of the school and to the local community. The impact of this ethos is clear in the extent to which students feel safe in the school and by their extremely positive attitudes; the overwhelming majority enjoy coming to school. Teaching and other staff are proud to be part of the school.”
