Pastoral and Behaviour Specialist

The Orchard Special School are looking to appoint a Pastoral and behaviour  Specialist to support vulnerable young people with SEN. You will work closely with the Assistant Principal for Behaviour & Welfare and our Designated Safeguarding Lead to improve student engagement.

You will need to be emotionally flexible, resilient patient, and empathetic when dealing with sometimes challenging situation. We are looking for you to have experience in supporting the needs of young people with SEND especially in the area of SEMH. 

You will be part of an experienced team working towards supporting all children across the school to manage their emotions positively, supporting them through challenging experiences and with unwavering commitment to safeguarding, welfare of all within the school.

Role Overview:

·        To use specialist techniques of de-escalation, deflection, distraction, and reparation to minimise the loss of learning time, helping a student regulate and return to class.

·        To work with the Assistant Principal for Behaviour and Welfare in delivering strategies for improving attendance.

·        Support the students (and staff) by following the Behaviour, Anti Bullying and Safeguarding Policies. 

·        To take into consideration the individual needs of each pupil, including disabilities and vulnerabilities. 

·        Work with external therapeutic support to further develop emotional regulation strategies and deliver interventions. 

·        Work directly with students who present with challenging behaviour and have an input in to plans to reintegrate into the classroom. 

·        Support Centre Managers with data collection and planning.

·        Support and contribute to the development of Emotional Support Plans and Positive Handling Plans. 

·        Support Assistant Principal in the reporting and recording of behavioural incidents and physical interventions. 

·        Lead on Morning Meet and Greet, breaktime and lunch time activities plus End and Send 

·        Be qualified or willing to qualify in Team Teach to enable to use physical interventions when reasonable, proportionate, and necessary to keep children and others safe. 

·        Work flexibly and develop positive relationships with staff and learners. 

·        Have good safeguarding knowledge and experience, including the LADO process, social care referrals and working positively with outside agencies.
