Location: St Mary’s Catholic College

Responsible To: Assistant Head Teacher

Salary Grade: Band H, Scale point 25-28 £29,081-£31,535 (actual)

Contract: This is a full-time, permanent contract. This post is 36 hours per week, 41 weeks per year (term time only plus three weeks)

Start Date: 1st January 2023

The governors of St Mary’s Catholic College are seeking to appoint a highly effective Pastoral and Safeguarding Lead to work across all areas of our school and also have trust-wide responsibilities. We strive for our school to be a place where all children feel safe and happy and can achieve their full potential. We are committed to developing the talents and skills of every child and the post-holder will be in the privileged position of working closely with our families to ensure our children are safe and receive the support they need. 

St Mary's Catholic College is a school for students of all abilities, which continually strives in all it does to realise its Mission Statement to ‘Love and Serve Christ within us all’. St Mary’s is based in Wallasey and is home to the Trust’s new ‘Element Centre’. 


Key responsibilities:

  • Coordination of safeguarding cases across school. To ensure that open cases are coordinated across staff effectively and efficiently managed. 
  • To support the DSL in analysis of incidents and ensuring appropriate pastoral response plans are in place.
  • To support the school’s approach to managing pupil behaviour, including providing capacity within the Hub and associated support areas. 
  • To provide oversight of the hub and ensure that there is consistent practice and experience for pupils attending.
  • To provide support for staff when experiencing difficulty managing complex behaviours.
  • To ensure students have the appropriate support plan when identified through pastoral leads across school.
  • To coordinate all escalated attendance cases and ensure appropriate support plans are in place as per the college attendance strategy.
  • To work with the lead DSL to support the Trust strategy.
  • To support DSLs in schools across the Trust to ensure policy and practice is aligned with the Trust strategy.
  • To report to Trust with regards to safeguarding systems and processes.
  • To provide outreach support for staff struggling to manage pupil behaviour as required.
