Pastoral Assistant

OLA is an independent, coeducational day school located just outside Oxford which provides a warm, supportive atmosphere in which exceptional pastoral care and an innovative, inclusive culture underpin all that we do.  

A reliable, conscientious and empathetic person is required to assist the School’s Pastoral Term in this term-time only position. Working alongside, and reporting to the Assistant Head (Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead), duties will include monitoring attendance alongside administrative and practical tasks. The ideal candidate will enjoy working as part of a small, collaborative team whilst having responsibility for their own area of work. Safeguarding, mental health and other appropriate training will be provided.  

The successful candidate will take up post from September 2022. Full-time working hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm.  Job-share applications will be considered, please specify on your application if you are applying in this capacity.

Experience or working with children and young adults

Able to empathise with pupil requirements

Able to work independently while being part of a team

Professional, proactive, with a 'can-do' attitude

Good, general IT skills (using Outlook and the school database iSAMS)

Able to prioritise workload and cope with changing demands of role

 Excellent communication skills to deal with pupils, staff and external agencies

Patient, friendly and approachable

Understanding and supportive of the School's ethos

Abingdon-on-Thames is an historic, modern market town situated eight miles south of Oxford, with its world renowned reputation as a centre of academic excellence.
