OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

As Pastoral Director (Head of Year), you will be responsible for the pastoral care, personal development and progression of a cohort of students within a defined Year Group. At CATS College London we have three Year Groups - Year 11, 12 and 13. The Pastoral Middle Management Team consists of four Pastoral Directors, with two in Year 13 due to the size of the cohort. The role will have a teaching timetable and you will need to be able offer a subject specialism of either Mathematics, Business or Economics.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To manage a team of Personal Tutors (PTs) and their Personal Tutor Groups, taking ultimate responsibility for the students in those PT groups in relation to their attendance, behaviour, welfare and academic progress.
  • Help to develop a Personal Development (PSHE) Programme that is worthwhile and recognised as such by students and staff and that corresponds explicitly to the ISI Framework for Personal Development, contributing to the College’s wider objectives.
  • Track, monitor and continuously improve the quality of Personal Development delivered by PTs.
  • Liaising with others, ensure the appropriate level of staffing in PT groups, monitoring group sizes and supporting placement of students in PT groups.
  • Liaising with the Academic Management Team, ensure proposed Programme of Study/ subject change requests are managed so all stakeholders (including teachers and parents) agree, and the process is followed.
  • To work with the Higher Education Officer to effectively manage student progression.
