Job overview

We are seeking to recruit two Pastoral Support Assistants to work at John Ferneley College on a permanent basis, working 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday (Monday to Thursday, 8am – 4pm and Fridays 8am – 3.30pm), term time only plus 5 INSET days (39 weeks).

We have a very exciting opportunity to join the Pastoral Team at John Ferneley College. We are at an exciting time in our development as a school, as we strive to be exceptional in everything we do, including delivering a first-class pastoral system and student support team.

We are looking to appoint two Pastoral Support Assistants to support students at John Ferneley College from August 2021. As a key Support Staff member, you will be confident, caring, forward-thinking and able to work with everyone in the community.

At John Ferneley College, we have a passionately holistic approach to providing the children we serve the best possible education to give them what they need for successful and happy futures. We are committed to providing an excellent knowledge-rich curriculum that develops ambition, raises expectations and delivers excellent results. Our students are helped to become the best versions of themselves as people who know they must work hard and who have responsibilities.

We have, and continue to drive strong relationships with parents/guardians, who play an active role in the school's vision and values as we strive to become exceptional. We genuinely believe in the importance of working in partnership with our staff, parents/guardians, students and all stakeholders.

As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will be responsible for the welfare of our students day-today, completing pastoral administration tasks, as well delivering exceptional pastoral care to an extremely high standard.

The welfare, safety, health and happiness of every student is the top priority of the Pastoral team.

Our whole-school approach to pastoral care is carefully considered to ensure that students have a sense of independence and freedom whilst knowing that they have the highest standard of care, support and well-being on offer to them, from Year 7 through to Year 11.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection processes. You will ideally have pastoral care experience in a secondary education setting but this is not essential as training will be offered.

It is essential that you have GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent, and be educated to level 4 or equivalent and have a good level of IT skills. You will have excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels, both written and verbal. You will have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team. You will also have the ability to manage your time effectively and have a flexible approach and have a strong understanding of the health and safety requirements.
