Job overview

About the role:  Leigh Academies Trust operates an effective and very efficient in-house payroll service on behalf of our 31 academies. As the Trust continues to grow, we now have the opportunity to appoint a Payroll Officer to join us, starting as soon as possible (depending on the successful candidate’s notice period).

The successful candidate will join a team of 8 friendly and knowledgeable staff who you will be learning from, and working under the direction of a supportive and highly experienced Payroll Manager. The Payroll Team at LAT is incredibly stable with members of the team rarely leaving the Trust, demonstrating the commitment they have and the great working environment that they are part of. Our successful candidate does not have to have a wealth of experience specifically in Payroll as we can provide you with excellent training to get you up to speed; instead, we are looking for a committed candidate with excellent attention to detail who is able to prioritise and won’t be phased by a high volume of work.

What we can offer;

  • Flexibility can be offered around start and finish times, but the majority of the team work Monday to Thursday 8.00am - 4.30pm and 8.00am - 4.00pm on Fridays
  • A starting salary of £23,188 per annum + 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Hybrid working at present; 2 days in the office, 3 days working from home in light of the pandemic. In the long term, we anticipate a working arrangement of 4 days in the office with 1 day working from home.

We are conducting interviews on a rolling basis and will continue to do so until we appoint a great candidate - hopefully that will be you!

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st September 2021, our Trust will comprise 32 geographically organised academies (15 secondaries, 14 primaries and 2 special) educating 20,000 students, and employing 2,500 talented staff. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training organisations, a large teaching school hub and is an accredited apprenticeship provider. As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

Our commitment to safeguarding: Leigh Academies Trust and all of our academies are committed to ensuring the highest levels of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils, and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We adopt a fair, robust and consistent recruitment process across all academies and business units. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, references, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check.

Our commitment to equality and diversity: As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals, we all bring something unique to the role regardless of any protected characteristics which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise. We are committed to providing equality and fairness throughout our recruitment and employment practices and not to discriminate on any grounds.

Based on the quality and quantity of applications received, Leigh Academies Trust reserves the right to close this vacancy sooner than the specified closing date. Applicants will be notified of this where possible. Therefore, early applications are encouraged.

About Leigh Academies Trust

Leigh Academies Trust is one of the country’s largest and most-established multi-academy trusts operating across Kent, Medway and South East London. It contains primary, secondary and special academies and is highly inclusive and successful. Our mission is to deliver “education for a better world” by ensuring that young people in our academies have an excellent start in life regardless of their background or ability.

We are a non-profit making charitable company, based in Strood, Medway. The Trust exists to support and assist schools to build upon their existing strengths and to help them achieve rapid educational transformation. It has significant experience in running schools, and today includes both sponsored academies and schools which have chosen to convert to academy status.

The Trust was formed in 2008 with the linking of the Leigh Technology Academy and Longfield Academy under one governing body. Today, we encompass more than 20,000 students between the ages of 2 months and 19 in over 30 primary, secondary and special academies including one all-through academy and one grammar school.

In addition to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all of our children, aged from 2 months to 19 years, and their families, we are proud to provide many opportunities for lifelong learning.  These are delivered through the organisations under our umbrella: Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, LAT Apprenticeships and Kent and Medway Training (KMT), which delivers routes into teaching. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.
