The Role

As a PE Teacher, you will lead, develop, and manage the effective delivery of an outstanding lessons, which enables the highest level of student progress and attainment. You will promote outstanding teaching and learning and a strong school culture within a nurturing and rigorous environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Set high expectations so that all students are inspired, motivated and challenged to reach their full potential, and in doing so meet their progress and attainment targets
  • Plan and teach well-structured, differentiated lessons that are aligned to the agreed curriculum and cultivate every student’s intellectual curiosity
  • Use well-selected and safe practical work to help students understand PE concepts and the process of working scientifically 
  • Use data to inform teaching and learning, identify areas for intervention and provide feedback to students, staff and families in order to promote progress and outcomes
  • Manage behaviour effectively to create a safe, respectful and nurturing environment so that students can focus on learning
  • Work collaboratively with both school and network colleagues as a committed team member, building successful, high performing teams 
  • Participate actively throughout the network, by attending relevant meetings, and, as appropriate, delivering network-wide training and initiatives
  • Work with colleagues, students and families to develop a strong school community 
  • Participate in and/or create extra-curricular and interdisciplinary activities and trips 

Academy Culture 

  • Contribute to the development of an Academy culture and ethos that is utterly committed to high achievement and exemplary behaviour
  • Live the values of the academy by modelling caring and respectful behaviour
  • Support the academy’s vision by contributing to the development and implementation of policies practices and procedures
  • Work alongside other middle leaders to help create a strong community of learners, characterised by everyone seeking advice on how to improve and develop
  • Support, work in collaboration and share best practice with colleagues and other professionals in and beyond the Academy

Other department related issues

  • Offer enrichment opportunities that stretch and challenge 
  • Work closely with the SEN department so that low attaining students are supported in making rapid and sustained progress 

Other

  • Undertake other various responsibilities as directed by members of the SLT or Principal.
  • Undertake the other main professional duties of a teacher as set out in the pay and conditions of service document

Role review

This job description sets out the main duties of the post at the time of drafting. It cannot be read as an exhaustive list. Person Specification: PE Teacher of Girls

Qualification Criteria 

  • Qualified to degree level and above 
  • Qualified to teach and work in the UK.

Experience

  • Experience of raising attainment in a complex urban environment
  • Demonstrable commitment to raising attainment of all pupils in a challenging classroom environment 
  • Excellent understanding of both subject and general teaching pedagogy 
  • Effective and systematic behaviour management 
  • Knowledge of the national secondary education system, examinations and curriculum
  • Understanding of the recent changes to GCSE and implications for teaching and learning
  • Be or demonstrate the potential to become an outstanding teacher
