Job overview

Burlington Danes holds a special place in London’s educational landscape. It is the first Ark school, and has a history stretching back to its founding in 1699. Ark Burlington Danes Academy is a non-selective, all-through comprehensive school that serves a local community with a high degree of social disadvantage. Our mission is to ensure that every child, regardless of background, has the right to access the highest qualifications, best universities and most competitive careers. Our teachers are firmly committed to our vision. We believe in a ‘no excuses’ culture and strive to ensure that our students have the best academic education possible, supported by an excellent enrichment and pastoral programme to ensure our children develop into rounded, successful individuals who will thrive in the outside world. We are a learning community that invests heavily in developing the teaching and leadership skills of all our staff through our in-house programmes and the outstanding training provision of the Ark network.

We require an exceptional and committed PE teacher who will work within a supportive and highly successful department. As a key member of the team, you will be expected to teach across KS3, KS4 and KS5. Applications from suitably qualified NQTs are most welcome. Experience in teaching BTEC and A-Level PE would be an advantage. The Department is very committed to offering our students a range of extracurricular activities and as such the successful candidate will be expected to lead a number of these activities and contribute to the continuing development of sport and PE throughout the school.

We would very much like to hear from you if you share our vision, values and enthusiasm. We are very happy to talk about the post informally if you require more information. For information about the school, please go to www.burlingtondanes.org.

Visits to the academy before application submission are welcomed. Please contact Julia Morson on 0208 735 4972 or Joshua French (joshua.french@burlingtondanes.org) to arrange this.

Please complete your application by 11am on Monday 7th January 2019.  If you have any technical issues please contact the recruitment team on 0203 116 6345 or email recruitment@arkonline.org.

Curriculum

We believe that everyone deserves to be accepted, included and empowered to live a life that is purposeful and fulfilling. Our curriculum is a key driver of this vision and our Christian ethos. We place the curriculum at the heart of school life. It drives all other decisions that we make and is the best means we have of demonstrating as a school what we believe in and what we stand for. Our curriculum is a broad, balanced and equitable offer; built around the core disciplines of English, mathematics, science, humanities, languages and religious education. All subject areas prepare pupils for future study within their discipline, with mastery of core and foundation subjects ensuring pupils have choice later on in their education; as they specialise in key areas of study.  The curriculum in each subject area has been designed backwards from university study, through A-Level, GCSE, and into the Primary and Early Years phase to ensure students can reach their fullest potential.
