Job overview

Derby College are the Hub lead organisation for the Derby City Talent Match Programme, which is funded by the Big Lottery and are responsible for delivering mentoring services to young unemployed people living in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The Talent Match programme represents a 'strategic investment' by the Big Lottery Fund to foster innovation and in-service delivery to tackle the rising problem of youth unemployment across the UK. The intention of the programme is to provide a 'test and learn' environment to fully understand which interventions achieve real employment outcomes and assist beneficiaries to overcome their own barriers.

We are therefore seeking a creative, person-centred individual to join a dynamic and responsive team. As a Peer Mentor you will manage and maintain a caseload of beneficiaries, developing tailored support plans to achieve their work aspirations.

The successful applicant will have the ability to engage effectively with young people and will demonstrate a commitment to their involvement in the programme. An understanding or issues associated with long-term unemployment affecting young people is therefore essential to this role. Experience of completing needs assessments and mentoring young people would be an advantage although willingness to undertake additional training will be considered.
