Job overview

St Dominic’s School is a special academy in Surrey and provides outstanding education for pupils and students aged 7-19, typically with a primary diagnosis of Speech Language & Communication Needs and/or Autistic Spectrum Condition. The school is located in Hambledon, close to Witley, Milford, Guildford and Godalming.  We are part of Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust (OHC&AT), a specialist Trust with 12 Academies and 7 College Centres across London, Surrey and Sussex.

At St Dominic’s we believe passionately in a multi-disciplinary, ‘needs led’ approach to meeting each child’s and young person’s needs, resulting in carefully managed groupings, including specialist intervention work from our in house therapeutic team.

The school works closely in partnership with families, referring authorities and external agencies to coordinate the best possible education, care, guidance and support for its pupils and students.

The Performing Arts can offer a vital outlet for our children and young people. At St Dominic’s we use music and drama as a way of reducing stress and managing anxiety in our children and young people who often choose these activities over and above anything else as a means of helping them manage their emotions. The Performing Arts are a means of children and young people showcasing their strengths, building their self-esteem and interacting with others. These subjects also broaden the range of opportunities our young people will have in the future.

We are looking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic teacher of Performing Arts. The successful candidate will be required to teach pupils and students who have a range of abilities across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.  You must be able to convey the subject to pupils and students, and monitor and assess to ensure the best possible progress. The successful candidate will have a commitment to developing outstanding practice and a passion for making a difference to the education and lives of our young people by motivating and inspiring our pupils and students to be the best that they can be while building positive and supportive relationships.

Applications are welcome from both NQTs and experienced teachers. Experience of working within a SEN setting is desirable, but not essential.
