Job Description


Job Title: Brass Teacher 

Responsible to: The Head of Music 


Objectives of the post: 

• To teach pupils at The Queen’s Senior School requiring peripatetic instrumental lessons 

• To encourage pupils to achieve their potential in playing an instrument and to support examination entry on the instrument when required 

• To promote and extend the teaching of musical instruments at The Queen’s School 


Key responsibilities: 

Peripatetic Lessons 


1. To teach individual pupils or pairs for one half hour lesson per week during term time 

2. To develop playing technique and reading of notation 

3. To coach pupils for examination work when an appropriate standard has been achieved and if the pupil wishes to participate in a practical examination course 

4. To enter candidates for examinations in liaison with the Head of Music 

5. To keep an accurate register of attendance for pupils 

6. To monitor pupil progress and communicate any concerns or commendations to the Head of Music 

7. To attend one parents’ evening and write one progress report for parents each academic year 


Wider school role 

1. To encourage pupils to take part in music department co-curricular ensembles, concerts and events 

2. To promote and extend the teaching of musical instruments at The Queen’s School 

by demonstrating the instrument to the school community 

3. To encourage pupils to participate in practical music making, both at school and in the wider community 

4. To support the ethos of the school in developing the profile of music.
