Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Peripatetic Piano Teacher who can also teach the Oboe & Bassoon at this leading co-educational prep school in Surrey. . Hall Grove is a family-owned school with a family ethos at its heart. Our school values are the foundation of everything we do.

At present this role would be to start tuition for 9 piano students who are currently on our waiting list and, in time, to build up the number of oboe and bassoon players too. Hall Grove has never had oboe and bassoon tuition on offer, so the ideal candidate would be willing to help the Director of Music in introducing these instruments to the wider school. At the current time, we are very tight on room space for peripatetic teachers so it would be ideal if the candidate was able to offer an afternoon for teaching, but we would be able to accommodate them if they could only offer time in the mornings.

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of preparing children for ABRSM music exams. They will bring enthusiasm and passion to their teaching, and motivate their pupils to progress. They will also be expected to maintain clear and consistent communication with the parents of their pupils, produce annual written reports, and regularly enter their pupils into Informal Lunchtime Concerts at school.

Hall Grove is committed to safeguarding, keeping children safe from harm and promoting their welfare. All staff have the responsibility for safeguarding children and this is a key part of the role.

Peripatetics at Hall Grove are self-employed and set their own teaching rate which is between £22-£25 per half hour lesson (in line with MU suggested rates). Communication is directly between the parent and the peripatetic, but the school will act on your behalf in areas such as recruitment of pupils and any problems which may arise with fee payment.

To better understand the unique learning environment that is Hall Grove School, all applicants are strongly encouraged to visit our website www.hallgrove.co.uk prior to applying.

Applications to the Director of Music by email (recruitment@hallgrove.co.uk), attaching the completed Application Form.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (as amended) and full safeguarding checks will be undertaken prior to appointment.

The school is committed to equal opportunities, welcoming applications from all those who meet the essential requirements of the role.
