Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and talented Peripatetic Teacher of Piano to join our thriving Music Department from January 2022. The primary requirement will be to teach pupils of all abilities from Year 7 to Year 13 and be able to motivate young people in their music-making.

Hours of work will be dependent on the number of students wishing to study piano, however we have an active piano section and expect to be able to offer in the region of three hours teaching per week initially.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide lessons on a one-to-one basis, in addition to supporting and promoting the performance of pupils within the Music Department and the school. 

This opportunity would suit a confident and highly motivated practitioner, with a range of musical talents and tastes.   You will normally have either several years’ experience in classroom teaching with a suitable higher-level qualification and some instrumental specialism, or be an instrumental specialist with a music degree and be able to perform at an equivalent standard on your main instrument.

Bournemouth School for Girls is a selective secondary grammar school located in Bournemouth, Dorset.  With around 1100 pupils on roll, including 300 in the Sixth Form, Bournemouth School for Girls is larger than the average secondary grammar. The school converted to academy status in 2011, and is now part of the South West Academic Trust. The trust includes a large number of grammar schools across the region, and is directly affiliated with Exeter University. The school can boast of a wide range of facilities, including large playing fields shared with a local boys’ school.
