We are looking for a highly skilled and passionate Teaching Assistant (TA) to work in our outstanding school in order to provide support within our ASD SEN base provision. We offer a range of opportunities for career progression, including for those applicants who would like to pursue a teaching career.

Avenue is a large, friendly and supportive primary school and the successful applicant will be a valued member of the Avenue team. Our ideal candidates will be committed to enhancing children’s learning, be flexible, able to work independently and enjoy working as part of a pro-active and dedicated team.

Our SEN base offers full time places for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, as well as additional needs. Our pupils access our mainstream provision for social and learning opportunities, as well as our base provision for a highly engaging, personalised curriculum. This is an opportunity to work with exciting pupils as well as learn from a range of experienced professionals.

We have a structure for our Teaching Assistant support that allows for progression and enhanced professional development for Teaching Assistants working within our school. Phase Teaching Assistants have the opportunity to progress to become Specialist TAs in Mentoring, Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) or EAL (pay scale - £22,659 to £24,744) as such posts become available and are advertised internally. Furthermore, we offer progression to the role for Lead TA for Learning or Lead TA for SEMH (pay scale - £25,506 to £27,252) which is also appointed from internal recruitment.

This exciting structure allows for opportunities for TAs to progress within their career, to have their invaluable contribution to pupil learning and well being recognised and to engage in enhanced professional development.

As a Teaching School, we pride ourselves on nurturing a love of learning in everyone in our school community. We recognise that many TAs are gaining valuable experience before undertaking teacher training and we want to support them in their aspirations for a career in teaching.

We recruit and train candidates for the School Direct Teacher training programme (Alliance route) in partnership with the University of Roehampton. Any TAs who are interested in training under School Direct and meet the admissions criteria, would be supported in applying for this ITT route (Initial Teacher Training.)

Applicants must have a minimum of NVQ3 (or equivalent) or be working towards this qualification. Please refer to person specification for more information.

Every employee is personally responsible for being vigilant and carrying out their responsibilities under our Safeguarding, Child Protection and Health and Safety Policies. Avenue Primary Academy is committed to safeguarding our children. This post is subject to enhanced checks carried out by the DBS.

Avenue Primary Academy is a very popular school for parents, situated near the A217 in Sutton and within easy reach of the M25. The academy is in Belmont village and is considered to be the 'local' school.  The academy recently expanded from three to four form entry with three five-form 'bulge' year groups, and had 992 pupils currently on roll.

An SEN Opportunity Base for ASD opened in September 2016 for up to 10 children.

Avenue is a Teaching School within the Sutton Primary School Teaching Alliance, and staff at the academy benefit from this as both recipients and providers, creating additional career opportunities. As a National Support School, staff at the academy support in other schools across the country.

Cirrus Primary Academy Trust was established when the school converted to an academy in September 2015, and a second school joins the trust in January 2017 as a sponsored academy.
