Leipzig International School is an independent non-profit day school for students from Nursery to Grade 12. It provides a high-quality international education, conducted predominantly in English, to children of all backgrounds; thereby supporting a diverse community and promoting international understanding. Over 190 staff members from all over the world work together to create a stimulating and exciting learning environment for our children whose families come from over 70 countries. Established in 1992, the school has grown and developed significantly over the past years. It operates at two locations: on Könneritzstraße (School, Grades 1 through 12) and on Karl-Heine-Straße (Leipzig International Kindergarten).

We are looking for a Physical Education Teacher (m/f/d) starting 01 August 2019 who will join the PE department to teach PE to both Primary and Secondary School students.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Reporting to Head of PE
  • Teach Physical Education within the Curriculum Guidelines and promote, coordinate
  • and participate in sports activities throughout the school year
  • Plan and prepare lessons in advance in collaboration with colleagues and ensure that learning is kept within curriculum targets
  • Carry out assessment procedures and marking policies as outlined and organised by the school
  • Record and report on the development, progress and attainment of children including initiating meetings with parents to discuss attainment and progress
  • Keep a disciplined class whilst promoting the general well-being of children
  • Organise PE / Sport workshops for staff and parents when appropriate
  • Be prepared to coach a number of different sports as needed.
  • Participate in the provision of co-curricular activities including liaising with other schools and clubs to arrange fixtures
  • Maintain resources to the required safety standards and renew, as necessary within the budgetary allowance
  • Book sports facilities (e.g. swimming pools, fields, tennis courts) and carry out necessary administration as required
  • Write subject development plans, curriculum documents and policies in liaison with the responsible managers
  • Promote developments within PE, identify and report any associated staff development requirements to the responsible manager
  • Carry out lunch and playground duties as timetabled and or when necessary
  • Attend School meetings and In-Service-Training as and when required
  • Maintain an appropriate awareness of and work effectively within the policies and procedures of the school
  • Operate safely within the workplace and maintain a high standard of practice
  • Behave professionally at all times and maintain confidentiality of information
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of the children that fall under your responsibility or that you come into contact with
  • Such other duties that the Head Teacher and or Principal may reasonably and from time to time require

Your qualifications:

  • A degree in Physical Education or equivalent
  • A teaching certification or qualification
  • Rescue Swimmer / Lifesaver Badge – Silver would be a benefit
  • Experience of coaching a range of sports
  • Experience of working in an internationally-minded and diverse school community

About Leipzig International School

The Leipzig International School (LIS) is a non-profit day school, founded in 1991 to serve the needs of the international community of the Leipzig region. LIS has grown steadily since it opened as the first International School in the state of Saxony as a pre-school and elementary school. LIS is the oldest and largest international school in central Germany, run by a non-charitable organisation. In the Leipzig International Kindergarten we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, yet play remains the basis for learning. We use the ‘High Scope’ approach to develop the children’s growth and individuality. Additionally, the International Primary Curriculum is introduced in Early Years 3 (reception) classes.
