Job overview

The position of Physical Education Teacher reports to the Head of PE (immediate) and Head of Upper and Senior School. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver physical education lessons to students with a range of different abilities and capabilities and well as to create a positive and supportive learning environment, develop activities so that students are able to practice in a meaningful context.


Requirements

·     Fully Qualified Teacher;

·     University degree in a sport related field (desirable);

·     Commitment to the values of the continuum of an International Baccalaureate education;

·     A consistent commitment to high levels of pastoral care; 

·     Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English;

·     Willingness to lead and support school teams in football, basketball, athletics, volleyball, tennis or swimming;

·     Ability to teach across a range of age groups (2 years – 17 years);

·     Ability to be flexible in an ever-changing world of education;

·     Positive and innovative mindset even in challenging situations;

·     Expectations of high standards of learning and behaviour from students; and the ability to challenge all students on an individual basis;

·     A willingness to contribute to the wider school community;

·     Caring nature towards students and families;

·     Compliant with Child Safeguarding Requirements.


Responsibilities

·     To ensure high quality PE lessons by adapting what is being taught to suit individual learning needs of students;

·     To plan high quality lessons in line with PYP, MYP and DP principles and curriculum outcomes;

·     To teach swimming lessons and ensure safety of pupils;

·     To set up equipment for PE lessons;

·     To maintain an inventory of all PE equipment and ensure it is safe and well maintained;

·     To be aware of safety in all environments;

·     To work with the PE staff in coaching sports teams in the school and engage in the school’s extra-curricular activities programme;

·     To consistently set high standards and expectations for learning;

·     Be a sporting role model to the students and contribute to a strong sporting ethos within the school;

·     To liaise with Head of PE and be available to support fixtures and tournaments;

·     Correspond with parents to report progress in lessons and teams and create sporting ethos among the families of our school;

·     Promote a safe working environment for students and staff;

·     To promote the ideals and mission of the school and our three pillars, Creativity, Character and Connectivity;

·     Contribute to the school community by being a team player willing to collaborate with a diverse group of teachers and staff members.
