Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a committed specialist teacher to join a large and successful team. A willingness and ability to teach across the Curriculum is necessary, including swimming. In particular, you will be involved with our KS3 practical PE as well as the ability to teach BTEC sport courses in Key Stage 4 and the Sixth Form. The capacity to work energetically and enthusiastically, with a desire to further raise the standards of student achievement will be needed.

We have deliberately emphasised, in our extra-curricular programme, sports we can deliver through our excellent facilities.

These include:

  • Sports Hall
  • A full-sized Floodlit Astroturf Pitch
  • A full-sized Floodlit Hockey Pitch
  • A full-sized Floodlit Grass Pitch
  • A 40-metre square floodlit tarmac area with sports markings
  • A 25m indoor Swimming Pool
  • A 70-station Fitness Suite including the latest in exercise analysis software
  • Four PE teaching rooms for theory aspects of KS4 and Sixth Form sessions
  • Elite Sports Academy in the Sixth Form

All Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students at the School receive weekly, two 90-minute sessions in Physical Education. Teaching in Key Stage 3 covers a range of sporting activities including Invasion Games, Athletics, Swimming and Fitness Training. All students in Key Stage 4 follow the AQA GCSE PE course or the BTEC Level 2 Sport Course. The BTEC Sport course is popular in the Sixth Form, with students following the Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma, or the Extended Diploma course. Also in the Sixth Form, students can choose to take the AGCE PE course.

Thomas Telford School students maintain incredibly high representative honours with over 200 students representing their District, County, Region or Country in a wide variety of sports. Our Session 3 programme runs from 3.15pm to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and this plays a pivotal role in our success at sport. During this time the successful candidate will be required to lead sessions, attend fixtures, and promote extra-curricular sport to all key stages.

We welcome the application of dedicated teachers who are keen to contribute to a hardworking and successful department.
