HAB is a diverse and inclusive comprehensive school for girls in central London. Many HAB girls are from disadvantaged backgrounds, but all study the EBacc and are prepared for university so as to compete with their more advantaged peers. HAB teachers and support staff are uncompromising and caring in achieving this.

Main Areas of Responsibility  

  • To deliver piano lessons appropriate to the standard of the students allocated  
  • To record attendance and progress using registers, lesson feedback forms and individual student diaries on a lesson by lesson basis.  
  • To take joint lead on launching, and developing an after school and/or lunchtime extracurricular ensemble within the academy.  
  • To advise and encourage students to engage in extra-curricular groups.  
  • To report to the Vice Principal regarding progress and attendance of both music lessons and music extracurricular activities

You will also be expected to:  

  • Create an inspiring and creative learning environment that will enhance every students’ learning experience;  
  • Support every pupil to achieve their full potential and become a confident, resilient and compassionate individual who can make a positive contribution to society;  
  • To record attendance and progress using registers, lesson feedback forms and individual student diaries on a lesson by lesson basis.  
  • To take joint lead on launching and developing an after school and/or lunchtime extracurricular ensemble within the academy.  
  • To advise and encourage students’ pupils to engage in extra-curricular groups.  
  • Teach the students in a way that is imaginative, creative and inspiring, appropriate to their age and stage of development;  
  • Plan your teaching by incorporating into your activities a variety of styles and approaches;  
  • Lead well-structured instrumental lessons and be able to think on your feet;  
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of your specialist instrument;  
  • Prepare students for Exams;  
  • Have experience in teaching beginners on your specialist instrument(s);  
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ learning, asking for regular feedback from line managers, other colleagues, students and parents;  
  • Reflect upon, evaluate and progress your own teaching.  
  • Source resources that will enhance teaching and learning and regularly seek to utilise these in lessons;  
  • Demonstrate good behaviour management;  
  • Provide feedback to the Line Manager on the student progress;  
  • Take an active part in participating in any Performance Events organized by the Music Academy;  
  • Support KS4 GCSE students and teachers where necessary.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have:  

  • A Good degree in an academically relevant subject.  
  • QTS would be an advantage but not essential.  
  • High Levels of experience teaching piano students of ranging abilities  
  • Knowledge of current curriculum developments in subject and their implications.  
  • Good knowledge and understanding of current educational thinking.  
  • Good understanding of how children learn and how to raise standards of achievement.  
  • Good communication skills in speech and writing.  
  • Excellent organisational skills.  
  • Understanding of equal opportunities issues and a commitment to implementing equal opportunity standards  
  • Be IT literate (MS Office, Music notation and Sequencing software preferable)
