Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual to join our established midday team to support and improve children’s enjoyment of lunchtime by planning, organising and delivering play activities.  The ideal candidate will be personable, practical and able to successfully engage children in safe play.  The ability to plan and deliver appropriate age-related sports activities will be a requirement, as will the ability to respond and adapt plans to achieve the highest engagement levels for our children.  

Hours of work are 12 noon – 1.15 pm, Monday to Friday, 6.25 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks).

This is a Fixed Term Contract to the end of July 2020.

The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Key roles and responsibilities:

- To organise a varied programme of fun sporting activities, supervising groups of pupils to maintain their health, safety, welfare and good conduct, with particular regard to any special/additional needs.

- To ensure that all equipment is available, useable, fit for purpose and safe.

- To work in a positive way to ensure children behave well, implementing the school’s reward and sanctions system.

- To complete relevant paperwork as required, such as incident forms, first aid records etc. 

- To respect (and protect) confidential and sensitive information.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of working with children, have a positive can-do attitude and an ability to work with initiative.  In return, we offer the opportunity to work as part of a successful and supportive team and with polite and courteous pupils!

Chellaston Infant School is a larger than average infant school on the outskirts of Derby.  The school was first opened in 1878 for the education of children of all ages. In January 1967 it became an infant school following the opening of Chellaston Junior School.
