Surbiton High Boys' and Girls' Preparatory Schools seek enthusiastic and hardworking Playground and Lunchtime Supervisors.

Reporting Line: PA to the Head

Tenure: Permanent, part-time – 36 weeks of the year (Monday to Friday, either 2 hours per day, 12:00pm to 2:00pm; or 4 hours per day 10:00am to 2:00pm)

Key Responsibilities:

  • To supervise pupils at mealtimes - encouraging children to eat healthily, helping infants to open packaging or cut up food, and providing some social and educational training, such as good table manners.
  • To clean up spillages, cleaning tables and clearing the dining area.
  • To oversee children in the playground or during wet play and monitor the safety and suitability of activities.
  • To lead on group games and activities to ensure that all pupils feel safe, secure and included when on the playground.
  • To show initiative when developing the pastoral support of pupils on the playground, including initiating games for pupils to join into.
  • To adhere to the school’s risk assessment and guidance to keep children safe and adhere to all health and safety guidelines.
  • To liaise with staff around specific pupils and issues.
  • To use the rewards system to celebrate good, kind and respectful behaviour.
  • To supervise children using toilet facilities – giving permission to older children and accompanying infants, checking they wash and dry their hands.
  • To care for the personal cleanliness of children.
  • To maintain order, caution children who misbehave and report unresolved problems to relevant Form Teacher or Deputy Head (Pupil Development)
  • To make sure children who are ill or injured receive appropriate medical attention, and report any serious accidents.
  • To ensure that the outdoor environment (including the Astro) is safe and fit for purpose. Report any issues to a member of the front desk team and remove any dangers from pupil access immediately.
  • Assist with daily playground inspections as well as the weekly inspection report which should be sent to the Facilities Manager.
  • To ensure the playground is left clean and tidy each day.
  • To carry out light administrative duties e.g. photocopying, filing and laminating.
  • To listen to the pupils read, assisting with their development of phonics and comprehension.
  • To carry out any such duties as may be reasonably requested.
