Job overview

Outwood Academy Valley is an outstanding school in the North of Nottinghamshire at the gateway to the famous Dukeries, including Clumber Park. Situated in Worksop, a vibrant town with a historic market centre and a mining heritage, we work closely with the town’s other secondary school, Outwood Academy Portland to raise standards and transform lives of the children in the community. In December 2007 the school was rebuilt to provide a state-of-the-art learning environment with excellent facilities for learning.

Outwood Academy Valley is one of 30 secondary schools in Outwood Grange Academies Trust; where students love to learn and are motivated to achieve. Being part of the Trust means that all staff have access to excellent opportunities for professional development at all levels, with scope to build a career across a range of schools.

Are you interested in making a difference for the most vulnerable learners in our academy? As our PLC Coordinator you will work closely with subject leaders and the SEND department to devise modified timetables and individualised support to our most vulnerable learners. This may include researching and delivering alternative curriculum courses and non-academic interventions such as anger management or sessions to improve self-belief.

You need to have a real desire to make a difference to children’s lives but also have a firm but fair manner as you may be dealing with students who struggle to modify their behaviour and require clear boundaries. You will also need to build relationships with external agencies that can support students who have a variety of external barriers that impact on their learning.

Outwood Academy Valley places students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased student outcomes whilst developing their social and emotional resilience.

We are an Ofsted Outstanding, 11-18 academy based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham.

Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, we were rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2017 and are among the top schools for Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire for GCSE results, including English and Maths. We are committed to developing our staff and we are delighted that after its latest inspection, Ofsted noted that ‘the support provided for teachers’ development is strong and wide ranging.’

We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential. With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic excellence equally, creating an environment where every student can shine.

We have won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

Although we are Outstanding, we are constantly looking to improve. Help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
