About HSE
As an independent regulator, HSE is responsible for setting the strategy, policy and legal framework for work-related health and safety in Great Britain. Our purpose is to prevent workplace death, injury or ill health and protect the environment. Influencing stakeholders, raising awareness of risks and encouraging behaviour change, our work benefits businesses, workers and the economy.
The areas you could be working in
We’re currently offering opportunities in our three priority policy areas - Building Safety Regulator (BSR), Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) and Engagement and Policy Division (EPD).
The newly-established BSR has been set up as part of the Government’s response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Working in this area offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile area of Government policy and help to ensure the safety of people living in high-risk buildings.
Policy advisors supporting CRD will be involved in developing and delivering regulatory schemes intended to protect the health of people and the environment, balancing the economic and social benefits that chemicals offer to society and helping to ensure their safe and sustainable use.
Within the EPD, policy advisors are at the heart of HSE’s work to reduce risk and protect people in the workplace, leading on communications and business insight interventions and helping to shape policy and frontline inspection interventions.
The role
As part of a multi-disciplinary team developing evidence-based policy proposals and drafting advice and briefings for HSE senior managers and Ministers, you’ll manage a number of work areas. As a workstream lead, you’ll set clear objectives and co-ordinate the work of a range of colleagues within your team and across HSE to ensure delivery. You’ll also represent HSE’s interests at stakeholder and cross-Government departmental meetings.
Who we’re looking for
Our policy work affects people’s lives in every community across the UK, and it’s important that our teams reflect the diversity of the society we work to protect. So we look for people from a wide range of backgrounds, bringing different skills, perspectives and experience from all walks of life.
The high-profile nature of HSE’s policy work, and the rapid pace of activity coupled with working with uncertainty, is particularly challenging. To succeed you must be politically astute and tenacious, able to think creatively, work flexibly and act decisively to keep projects moving forward. We’re looking for people who are able to bring their skills from different background and work collaboratively with colleagues.
We’re committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment and particularly welcome BAME/disabled/LGBT+ applicants, currently underrepresented in this discipline within HSE.
Apply before 11:55 pm on Sunday 31st October 2021.
