This post would suit an enthusiastic Music or Music Technology graduate with excellent keyboard skills who has the ability to assist in all aspects of a flourishing music department and who may be considering a career in teaching.   

The role will offer the opportunity to gain classroom experience with different year groups (KS3, GCSE and A Level) depending on the candidate’s interests/experience, whilst also assisting the department in a number of crucial areas.   

The vacancy is term-time and is initially for one academic year.  Accommodation will be provided throughout the year together with an allowance.  The successful candidate would be available to attend induction in late August 2017.

The successful candidate will be expected to: 

 • Assist with departmental administration including the preparation/planning of concerts, visits, tours, weekly music lessons; 

• Accompany students for performances and instrumental examinations (ABRSM, 1-8/Diploma level), including preparation for aural tests/exercises; 

• Run and/or assist with extra-curricular rehearsals (choirs, ensembles, 

• chamber music); 

• Assist with class teaching at KS3, KS4 and/or A Level in both Music and possibly Music Technology (TBC depending on the interests and aspirations of the successful candidate);

 • Attend and support school concerts/events/trips during the year as agreed with the Director of Music.

 • Understanding and recognition of the principles of equality and diversity; 

• Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all students.

King’s Bruton is a mixed independent school with sixth form in the Somerset town of Bruton. Students attend the school from the ages of 13 to 18, with the option to board throughout their school careers. There are approximately 370 students on roll. The Somerset school operates in partnership with Hazlegrove Preparatory School, in nearby Sparkford.

King’s Bruton was founded as a boys' school in 1519, admitting girls in the late 1960s before becoming fully co-educational in 1997.
