Job overview

We are looking for a dedicated, hardworking person with a cheerful personality to join our Premises Team at Salesian School. 

You will provide a variety of essential, maintenance and caretaking activities to aid the smooth running of the school and to ensure the school site is always presented to a high standard.

36 Hours a Week, 52 Weeks: 2pm-10pm subject to variation as the job requires

Responsibilities

 Security

• To ensure buildings are locked/unlocked at appropriate times, setting/turning off alarm systems and secure access to the School grounds to prevent trespass;

• To conduct regular patrols around School ensuring the security of the buildings and grounds;

• To attend agreed after school activities, lettings and meetings to secure premises;

• To have key holder responsibilities

 Maintenance and Repairs

• To make good or monitor  contractors to do so, as appropriate, items of damage or disrepair around the School;

• To ensure the appropriate movement of school furniture for events, eg. Assemblies , Parents’ Evenings etc;

• To ensure the prompt  distribution of all deliveries around the School;

• To attend callouts and if necessary conduct emergency boarding up to secure the School premises - challenge intruders where appropriate;

• To monitor the work of contractors engaged by the school to ensure specified standards are achieved;

• To respond to staff requests with regards maintenance and repairs.




 Environment

• To monitor and adjust  heating and lighting and other mains services to meet student / staff need and ensuring minimal waste  and to ensure that acceptable working temperatures are maintained all year round;

• To complete daily risk assessment identifying Health and Safety issues  around the School taking immediate action to remedy any health and safety issue either by action or report to Premises Manager 

• To check that toilets are kept clean, hygienic and free from litter;

• Carry out emergency cleaning in critical areas (e.g. toilets) as required and where the contractor has failed and a health risk is deemed to exist.

• To proactively and continually keep all outside hard areas clean and tidy, eg. litter clearance, leaf cleaning.

• To undertake some general checking and cleaning of some parts of the establishment i.e. buffing floors, vaxing, emptying shredders, recycling bins etc., to ensure a tidy environment is maintained.

• To provide emergency cleaning, after a child has been sick.

Porterage

• To  carry out  removal or relocation of office and general school furniture and equipment as necessary paying due attention to manual handling safe practices and maintenance of safe access/exit routes and walkways around the various halls, offices and classrooms;

• To manage effectively arrangements for purchasing, collecting, receiving and distributing deliveries of goods around the site maximising resources whilst minimising time and effort where possible;

• To respond to staff requests for porterage.

Continuing Professional Development - Self

• To take responsibility for personal professional development, in conjunction with the line manager.

• To undertake any necessary professional development as identified in the School Improvement Plan taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available.

Other

• To deal with or report, to the nearest member of the teaching staff, incidents that are seen or reported regarding students’ welfare;

• To undertake any other duties, commensurate with the grade, as reasonably requested by the Business Manager or Headteacher.

Salesian School is characterised by the philosophy of the Salesian founder St John Bosco (1815-1888). He stressed high educational standards and sound moral and religious education.
