Hours: 40 hours per week – 52 Weeks per year

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and methodical Premises Manager to join The Aurora Group working across three of our sites within Surrey – a van and a fuel card are provided. This is a diverse role which will include many different skills and task, no two days will be the same.

The main purpose of the role:

You will be responsible for ensuring that all matters relating to the continuous operation, maintenance and cleanliness of the buildings, grounds and equipment are managed in such a way that ensures a high quality site service is provided at all times thus ensuring the safeguarding, health, safety and general well-being of all those accessing the site.

You will work with the central estates department, you will also support the development of the services through site expansion projects and integrating new/developed buildings.

You will be expected to cover three sites over a week period, Redehall School in Smallfield, Caterham Education Centre in Caterham and Poppyfield School in Effingham.

This is a diverse role which will include many different skills. The support services teams are an essential pillar in enabling the children and young adults to achieve their full potential.

Key duties: 

  • Manage local relationships with Aurora approved local and companywide suppliers and ensure only approved suppliers are used.  
  • Provide management with timely notice of any difficulties that may arise as well as ensuring swift reporting of any unplanned and ad hoc requirements outside of planned expenditure.  
  • Provision of timely and accurate financial information in line with reporting requirements.  
  • From time to time undertake review of the balance between in-house labour and external contracts, making informed recommendations and then implementing approved changes to support quality and effective delivery in a cost effective manner.  
  • Review and oversee site security and emergency measures, ensuring that robust arrangements are in place to respond speedily and effectively.  
  • Contribute to annual operational and CAPEX budget processes (with site and central management).  
  • Respond to and resolve Adhoc maintenance requests via online ticketing software.  
  • Acting as the site and School’s Fire Safety Officer  
  • Recording and monitoring the consumption of electricity, gas and water and making recommendations for improvements in energy efficiency.  
  • Management of the maintenance and safety of all vehicles including auditing of mileage logs and usage register.  
  • Play a full part in building good relationships with other staff, students and stakeholders.

Skills:

The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate 

  • Previous management of site(s) with multiple use and complex equipment and needs of those accessing buildings, grounds and equipment (previous experience of working within education and special needs settings preferred).  
  • Flexibility and sensitivity to the needs of a wide range of users with complex needs is essential.  
  • Understands and can apply Legislation and Regulations relating to all aspects of site management e.g. to fire, health and safety, Legionella, asbestos, security, COSHH and Safeguarding (within a college/ school environment preferred).  
  • Line Management experience which demonstrates ability to motivate others to deliver high quality standards.  
  • Management of suppliers and contractors. Accredited management training is desirable.  
  • Competent at basic building repairs and maintenance and grounds maintenance and to effectively delegate and monitor work of others.  
  • Computer literacy skills essential due to the utilisation of the internal CAFM system.  
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations. Health and Safety qualification desirable.  
  • Enthusiastic and pro-active, keen to be involved. General maintenance knowledge preferably with a qualification in electrics / plumbing. Alternatively, a construction trade.  
  • Full UK Driving licence essential

Requirements of Role: 

  • The sites and buildings may be used over 24 hours and over 52 weeks of the year and you carry the lead responsibility for the running of the sites and any linked buildings.  
  • The role requires on call responsibility on a rota basis and may also be required to work during weekends and evenings and during public holidays within an agreed pattern and/or ad hoc basis.  
  • The role may from time to time require working at height and enhanced temperatures and noise levels and some lifting of heavy loads, subject to appropriate manual handling requirements, required  
  • The role has key holder responsibilities and you may therefore be required to provide emergency access to areas of the site outside of normal working patterns and on call responsibilities  
  • To be flexible with your operating hours, split shifts to allow for manual works to be done at a time when students are out of harm’s way.
