Job overview

Job Ref:  5809

The Prevent programme is part of the Government’s counterterrorism strategy CONTEST. The aim of Prevent is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism, by challenging terrorist ideology, supporting vulnerable people, and working in partnership with sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation.

The education sector has a vital role to play in the successful delivery of Prevent objectives within Enfield. This exciting opportunity is to cover the role of the Prevent Education Officer and will work with educational settings to identify vulnerabilities and risks, deliver training, build and maintain a network of contacts to improve coordination of Prevent activity. The successful applicant will work with schools to increase compliance with the Prevent duty, help shape local strategy and deliver interventions to strengthen resilience to all forms of extremism.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our Prevent Team to build on an existing programme of work.

This is a high profile role and we will require you to:

  • have experience of working within educational settings,
  • have excellent communications skills,
  • influence and engage a wide range of partners and stakeholders,
  • be politically astute,
  • have confidence and resilience,
  • have or willing to undertake a CTC/SC Security clearance.

The post is a secondment cover which is initially offered in a temporary - Fixed Term Contract Funded until end of March 2020 with the likelihood of an extension subject to continued government funding & continued secondment cover being needed. A secondment from the education sector will be considered.

An external candidate, including Enfield Council agency workers, would be appointed on a fixed term contract, whilst internal candidates who are Council employees, would normally be expected to take up the post on a secondment basis.

To be eligible to apply for a secondment, Enfield Council employees must have completed probation and must have discussed/agreed the proposed secondment with their line manager. Fixed term contracts may be considered where secondment is not possible.

Secondments are the temporary loan of an employee from one part of the organisation to another part of the organisation and rely on the secondee to return to their substantive position on completion of the secondment.

Due to the nature of the work, the successful applicant will be required to work flexibly, including attending and events outside of normal working hours when necessary. A current diving licence and the use of own vehicle would be helpful.
For an informal discussion about the role please contact Suj Ponnampalam - Prevent Programme Manager on 020 8132 1393.

Closing date for applications: 15th October 2019, at midnight.
Candidates should be available for Interviews on the week commencing 21st October 2019.
