We are in an incredible position to be able to expand our specialist offering at Portfield School. With the introduction of two new classrooms, we also need more Teachers!
Portfield School is a unique provision to support children aged 4-19 in a personalised and supportive environment in which allows our students to be the best they can be.
To be considered for this role, you would need to have either Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an ECT (Early Career Teacher).
The role
As a class teacher, you would support students with special educational needs specifically autism who are completing topic based learning within key stages 1 & 2.
The role would be to work with our students to teach and guide them through their educational journey assisted by a team of dedicated teaching assistants.
Some of our students are verbal, and some are non-speaking. The students use either speech, symbols, sign, PECS and various other aids to communicate. The curriculum is topic-based, and we are working to develop their communication, social interaction, physical and independence skills, and early reading, writing and maths. Our students follow the Read Write Inc phonics programmes. Attention Autism is also an integral part of our curriculum, training will be provided.
A day in the life of a Class Teacher:
- To create a unique, playful and inspiring approach to learning in a fun and supportive manner.
- Lead a team of teaching assistants who help the class run smoothly.
- Work alongside our multi therapy team consisting of Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Music therapist and more.
- Utilise our incredible specialist facilities, such as our therapy pool, sensory rooms, Forest school, roundhouse and smuga to incorporate inspiring environments to learn in.
- Plan and deliver tailored lessons
- Ensure early health care plans and assessments are continuously updated and maintained in order to best support our students
About You
For this primary phase of learning, we are looking for someone who:
- Has expertise in teaching and either qualified teacher status or early career teacher.
- Demonstrates clear communication
- Is full of enthusiasm and lots of energy
- Provides a calm approach, even under pressure
