The Location

Located in Nigeria, the 1000 hectare IITA campus is situated in a serene and secure location, surrounded by lush vegetation, a lake and a forest centre. This natural environment provides a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, making it the perfect place to call home. Not only does the campus offer a beautiful and peaceful environment, but it also provides a wide range of recreational and educational facilities that are available to residents.

IITA provides a wide range of sports and recreation facilities onsite for the use of residents. These include a swimming pool, a basketball court, a football field, tennis courts, a squash court and a golf course. IITA also has a well-equipped gymnasium, making it easy to stay active and healthy while living on campus. The IITA Forest Centre is a unique feature of the campus, which provides a natural environment for learning, research, and relaxation. The forest is a great place to take a walk and explore the local flora and fauna, as well as a place to relax and unwind.

The Role

As the Primary Class Teacher (Counselling), you will be the driving force behind all teaching and learning in your designated grade and will serve as a crucial resource for the Head Teacher and fellow teachers by providing expert support and guidance in the area of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the student counselling services within the school, ensuring that each and every student receives the care and support they need to succeed.

Requirements

  • The candidate should have BA, BSc or BEd with an internationally recognized teaching qualification.
  • Higher-level degree in education (M.Ed. M.A. etc) would be an added advantage.
  • Internationally recognized training/qualification in school counselling and /or SEND would be an advantage.
  • The candidate should have at least 3 years’ experience teaching in an international school approved by an international school’s association or body (e.g. IBO, CIE, AISEN, COBIS, COIS, AISA).
  • Experience of teaching in an IB PYP school would be an advantage


General information: The contract will be for an initial period of three years. IITA offers an internationally competitive remuneration package paid in US Dollars.

About The International School of IITA

The International School of IITA is an IB World School offering the IB Primary Years Programme. It provides a world class education to children of nationally and internationally recruited staff at The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). In 2021 children at school were selected to present their project on Women in Leadership at the IB Virtual World Conference.
